And the Auburn loss.

I still think this is still very doable for the Ags. It won't be easy by any stretch of the imagination, but still very doable.

When the post season committee takes a look at the field, how much does RPI matter vs conference finish or late season performance?

For regionals?

They consistently focus heavily on RPI but tend to award conference champions over teams that have a weaker conference record.

A&M's main focus should be on winning (of course) and then we want to see what happens in the Big 12 and Pac-12 conference races.

Historically, RPI correlates pretty well with seeding, but, in the end, they will use whatever metric fits the committee's view at the moment. Some years, they will justify it based on conference performance. Other years, they will look at how you finish (or what injuries you have).

If you told me I had to choose between having a top 8 RPI, finishing 2nd in the league (not first--there is a premium for championships), and winning something like 11 of my last 12 games, I'd go RPI, conference finish, and hot streak, in that order, but without any assurance that would absolutely be the right choice.
TXAggie2011

No top 8 RPI and I think, maybe, no top 16 RPI in the last few years got bumped from a top 8/top 16 seed, respectively, for a non conference champion.

And those bumped teams either play in a weak conference (DBU, Stetson) it had a glaring conference record problem (Virginia, Auburn, etc.)

Just win games at this point.

The Ags are 1 point behind UCSB that will lose RPI points whether they win or lose today. The Ags are also 23 points behind Stanford which has to win against Oregon St to remain ahead of the Ags. Note that there will be some small fluctuations for the opponents and opponents opponents games as well today.

Because RPI is a stupid metric. That's my controversial opinion. I've never liked it.

the RPI is really weird this year. the B12 is the 2nd rated conference yet they likely only get 1 host and 4 bids.

I somewhat agree, but take comfort? in knowing that the committee just ignores it when they see fit. See our exclusion from a national seed in 2011 (because John Stilson got hurt) and 2015 (despite having a higher RPI, win percentage, and SOS than TCU).

I would like our chances better if we were " in the clubhouse " going .500 or better at hoover might be required if it comes down to the Ags or the corndogs

TCU had a top 8 RPI and won the Big 12. Why would they have not gotten a national seed and what did that have to do with A&M's RPI being "ignored?" TCU had nothing to do with it and you know that.

sadly the Ags are 16-15-1 against the top 50 using the same logic we should be a 25 seed. The bubble is soft make run at Hoover and the 1-5 against OM&MSU wont be an issue

Have you seen the comparable numbers for the others in the bottom half of seeds (not just those competing for the final slots - but all of them). That isn't bad - in fact it's pretty good. UCSB hasn't played a single top 50 game.

Football fans should check facts. before posting on baseball threads.
Sq 17

The hosting bubble is soft this year. Using certain metrics the Ags should be hosting. The stat of being .500 against the top 25 is great but is cherry picking given that the Ags are .514 against the top 50. Just glad we aren't sweating getting a bid like the Gators.

Gap between 14 (us) and 13 (UCSB) must have been huge at the start of our series with Arkansas. We've been unable to jump them or move past anyone else despite taking two of three from Arky and beating Florida at a neutral site. During the same time period they've beaten a truly horrible Hawaii team a couple of times... Hawaii is so bad those games should have actually hurt UCSB's RPI.

We're closer to 12 (OSU) than 15 (UCSB) is to us, at the moment. I'm not too worried about UCSB at this point (watch that come back to bite me).

I guess I understand those who don't like RPI as apparently the most important metric. But I would like to see what folks who abuse RPI want to replace it with? IMO, just saying RPI sucks isn't enough.
