Mack is good choice. He was a hot name for a long time till the Louisville debacle. Definitely has the coaching chops. You need to be sure all the baggage is behind him. This is like when Auburn gave Pearl a second chance. Worked out well for them. At this point , given all the options, it is worth a shot.

Imagine introducing two Xavier guys to the A&M vs. ut rivalry. Would've been hilarious if Miller stayed put, the Longhorns tried to hire Cronin, and we end up snapping up Mack.

Sure their top four players are all gone (Louisville, Louisville, Virginia Tech, graduated) after a coaching change but yes they regressed.

Yeah, pretty sure we're gonna regress too, even if it was Beard.

Did CofC truly "regress?" In one year, in a one-bid league, they didn't win the conference tournament.

Also, I'd call Xavier a pretty big job, especially when it moved to the Big East, and he was damn good there and had UL rolling when covid shut the tournament down.

Seems to be underselling Mack's resume.

If news breaks that we've hired Chris Mack and the only peep of it is this thread, I'm gonna be impressed, not only with this little nugget but also that nationally nobody even had an inkling about any of it apparently.

they went 24-9 this year, just one less loss than last year

regressed is so dumb of them to say for a year 1 guy in a smaller job (aka smaller NIL to rebuild a roster)

If this is true a bad fire hire. Couldn't win at Louisville so let's put him in the most competitive conf. Bad idea hiring someone no one wants. Let's overpay him as well

I mean they were a significantly worse basketball team than the year before, but in this era you can't really call a first season a "regression." Especially when the coach was out of the game the year before.

In this era, Pat Kelsey can take his best players to Louisville, and he did, and Mack has to try and put together a roster without being able to bring anyone (again, he wasn't coaching so he had neither a signing class nor a current roster to pick from.)

If anything, I'd say being competitive at all in that situation (which is also why I like Lutz) is impressive. They still finished 13-5 in the league.

They also lost to UNC Wilmington in the conference tourney by 1 in the semis. UNC Wilmington went on to beat Delaware in the final - a team that both UNCW and CoC beat in the regular season. In other words, in his first year, he was essentially a bucket away from going to the tourney to get smashed by Texas Tech. I don't see regression.
