St. John's is having some trouble filling their open position.

It looks like mike Anderson and Melvin May be taking their game to New York City!

Pitino would have taken that job in a hot minute.

Fayetteville to the Big Apple. Think that there might be a bit of culture shock and adjusting to be done during that transition?

Sounds like this was made official today.

It's amazing he's held on to Melvin so long. Not an x and 0 guy obviously and I haven't heard he is a great recruiter from mizzoou or arky fans.

Loyalty is worth something, but he should have moved on by now.

I like Mike. I think his system could be effective in NYC with the talent there if they truly learn from him. And St. John's hasn't been exceeding expectations recently.

That's a great get for NKU. He will keep them at the top of their conference there. And he will have a couple pieces to work with.

Everyone on here was saying tech had to back the Brinks truck up, and they did. Third highest paid coach.

Details from Chris Beard's new contract with Texas Tech:

  • He will be paid $4.2 million for the 2019-20 season. (He had been scheduled to make $2.9 million under his previous terms).
  • If he is Red Raiders' head coach on Sept. 1, 2020, he will get a $750,000 retention payment. That will be in addition to the $4.3 million in basic annual pay he's scheduled to receive for 20-21 season.
  • If he is fired without cause after the 2019-20 season, he would be owed a buyout of $19.125 million, subject to offset from future "coaching-related" employment -- but no specified duty to mitigate
  • If Beard terminates without cause in first year, he will owe school $6 million if he goes to school in Big 12 or state of Texas, $3 million if he goes to NBA or school outside Big 12 or the state.

Interesting article on the UCLA coaching search:
Quote:

As the nation turned its attention to the Final Four in Minneapolis, UCLA was looking farther east. The search committee engaged Tennessee's Rick Barnes in a series of intense negotiations to finally fill its coaching vacancy.

Barnes had been a popular pick all along among some Bruins donors, and the veteran coach could be touted as a hot commodity after having just been given the Naismith Coach of the Year award following a season in which his team won 31 games.

After a series of back-and-forth discussions, Barnes agreed to take the job for just short of $6 million per season, with the Bruins footing his $5-million buyout, according to two people familiar with the talks. But Barnes subsequently had a representative contact UCLA, asking for more money.

UCLA pulled out of the discussions at that point, even after Barnes said he would accept the previously agreed-upon terms in an attempt to salvage the deal.

Interesting response from UCLA to Rick's "if they would have paid the buyout, I'd be there" comments.

In all seriousness, I hope that Providence isn't dumb enough to make a run at Pitino

Webber had a falling out with Michigan and his Fab Five teammates and apparently didn't speak with any of them for years. I wonder if that relationship has improved any since articles like this one came out a few years ago.

Quote:

On Thursday, speaking with Detroit's 105.1-FM's Matt Dery, Rose said that occasion that brought all five players under one roof hasn't done much to repair a fractured relationship.
It's still broken.
"I've got to sit down and have lunch with Chris before he sits down and has lunch with me and (Michigan athletic director Dave Brandon about a possible reconnect between Webber and the university)," Rose told Dery. "You can't cry over spilled milk. Whatever happened 20 years ago, if you aren't happy with your life and you're living under a freeway and you aren't successful, then I can understand you being bitter about what happened.
"But if you're doing your thing on TV, hosting All-Star weekend, really having a successful second career, I think it's time to mature and let it go. And unfortunately Chris hasn't let it go."
Webber's involvement in the Ed Martin recruiting scandal kept himself disassociated from the University of Michigan for 10 years -- by mandate of the NCAA -- beginning in 2003. That NCAA-imposed disassociation ended last May.

He's been bitter a long time. Hopefully that will improve now. That was an awesome class but sure had a lot of interesting personalities, including Rose.
