Any recs on how to get a bottle of Weller 12 when they hit shelves?
It's called bourbon hunting.
TW puts them on the counter. Specs has lists for all allocated spirits. Mom and Pop, build a relationship and ask.
Some just put them on the shelf. Others auction them off or hold a raffle.

Watch the bourbon secondary market on Facebook. People start posting what they found in stores weeks before we get t. It will clue you in to start checking, once it does drive around and find them
I stopped in a local hole to get a bottle of Blanton's. Wife's favorite. He let me know he will be getting Weller CYPB, I'm hoping since he told me I'll be able to get a bottle.

It's been on my list to try for a while, and I passed on a bottle for the same reason. I was in a bar last week that had it, but it was an easy pass at $50 per pour. That's more than the same bar was charging for GTS, THH, or WLW.

Same store I was in offered be Owl at $200. I laughed and passed. I told him my limit was $50-75 for drinking bourbon but I have a few carveout exceptions.
As for how to make "friends" with a store, if the owner is there I always stop to talk and have a friendly conversation and I always buy something while I'm there. Usually in the $20-30 range for cocktails etc...

Went to see my parents this weekend and went to some little store and started talking to the guy. He seemed pleased to have someone that appreciated bourbon, and offered me weller12 and Yamasaki 12 he had been sitting on . I opted for the W12, and he knocked off $10. Told him I would stop in every time I came to town. Sometimes things just work out.

I am interested in trying it, but I had been hunting W12 for a while so I was just glad I found it and knew my wife would upset if I got both. Maybe when I go back I'll see if he still has it and snag it. He made it sound like he had been sitting on them for a while, so maybe he will keep it tucked away,

Nah, I'm really good at spending money, and she's really good at saving. It's best for me to make sure she knows. She never tells me no, but I also don't want to abuse that for when I really want something.

The EC11 will go fast. This single barrel nonsense with 4000+ people in the HBS is redonk. They need to move to small batch picks.

I've all but given up on getting any of the HBS bottles. The closest store to me that gets any of their picks is Rice Liquor, and there is no way I can get over there in the middle of the day on a Tuesday. I have gotten some good bottles off of the HWE, however.
