Would you hurry the heck up, I want to see it finished...

JK, you are a very efficient worker though and it looks great

I agree, I am ready for it to be over also...

I only have about 3 weeks before college football starts and that is my goal.

Not to mention I am also doing wainscoting in the office and trying to get home theater wired up...all before football.

So...when are you heading over to my place and getting started on my patio?

Finished the framing for the grill to sit on. I still need to trim the top plate and add the counter height studs next to the grill located on the bottom plate beside the grill.

How old are you? Does your back hurt? My back hurts just thinking about all of that work day in/day out. 4 years ago this month my not yet boyfriend/now husband was incommunicado due to all of the improvements he and a buddy were making to a house to get it ready for football season. I guess this is just how it goes when gearing up for Aggie football!

Im going on 33 and so far no real physical problems have surfaced.

I plan to take off Wednesday-Friday to hopefully get the framing completed and start the backer board this weekend.

Got more done and did a long awaited dry fitting.

Yeah I can finally see the end. Only about 5' left to frame and it is a straight run but there is another access door to frame.

Finished the framing. I think I will take a few days off before starting the backer board. I will be doing some cleanup of the back yard also so it doesnt look like a construction zone anymore.

Too late for this, but it would have been cool if you had a camera going for this project the whole time, kind of like one of those time lapse cameras or w/e, then when your done watch the whole thing at high speed.
Olag00
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yeah it is a little late but it would have been interesting and you would definitely need to have it muted because there would have been a lot of bleeps during the process.

Remind me what's going in the island?

It is just going to be a counter with storage underneath. There will also be electric ran for a plug. Originally I was going to put the fridge inside but decided to go ahead and buy a regular outdoor fridge.

The island is the only thing that didnt turn out the way I had originally planned. It was supposed to be bigger for at least 3-4 people to sit at. It decreased in size due to the main kitchen slab not being all the way against the fence. See below for the detailed drawing I started with

From the pic above you can see how the kitchen was pushed up against the fence. Well during the framing for the cement, I was wondering what would happen if something happened to the fence and needed to get to it so I decided to move the kitchen away from the fence. The electric was already ran for the island so it couldnt be moved out along with it, so it just got smaller.

Olag00 -- can you give an estimate of how much you have into just the kitchen porion of the project? I'm getting ready to start budgeting for my project and am just curious +/- for materials.

Also, have you thought of putting a butcher block for the island countertop?

I should have kept better records for splitting up the activities. I planned to just look at bank statements and add up all merchants up to see total price of all of patio, but here is a rough estimate. Be prepared to spend a good chunk on the grill, I had no idea they were this expensive. I was told not to skimp on the grill because the framing cutouts differ per manufacturer and you want one that can last. The Luxor I bought has a lifetime warranty. The below estimate is for a moderately priced grill. Fridges are another thing that is absurdly priced. 300 was the cheapest and they go up to over 1500. My thought was to see how long this one lasts and then maybe upgrade to a higher end one later.

grill 1000+
Access Double Door 200
Access Single Door 150
Fridge 300
Metal Studs and Track 400
Cinder Block 60
Mortar 30
Cement 20
Screws 20
Metal Saw Blade 20
Masonry Saw Blade 10
2x4's cement framing 35
Stakes framing cement 10
Composite Decking 25
Rebar for pit 40
Cement Drill Bit 10
Paddle Bit 10

Total ~2340

This does not include the lighting or the backer board and all the material needed to complete it

I am around the 5-6k range for the entire project.

I havent thought about a butcher block counter for the island yet, but could be a possibility.

Thanks. I view the grill as a wash because whether or not I build the outdoor kitchen, I'd still buy a nice outdoor grill. Whenever I finally start, I'll be posting pics as I move along.

as someone in foodservice, i would not do a butcher block. being expose to texas heat and other inclement weather will make it change shape and in general is not very sanitary.

you could look into a polyethylene cutting board that you can get at most restaurant supply stores. you could even mount it on top like you would see on the front lip of a sandwich prep station:

you can cut notches into the underside of the board to mount them and make them removable for cleaning.

how is that any more sanitary than a wood block?

I'd do a stone surface

nice work BTW. I'm not crazy about the flagstone patio (would have done wood/trex or concrete) but it's pretty badass that you are doing it yourself. the kitchen is going to be badass.

i'm sure you're already thinking about shade, right?
Olag00
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yep, I have thought about the shade. I think that is going to be next years project or maybe later this year.

I also had a deck design I was going to do, but went to the stone place and it started raining, and the flagstone I picked out won me over with its wet look.

Here would have been my deck design and I hadnt worked much with the software but there would have been a block aTm on the "upper" level of the deck.

Also, I just picked up what I have been waiting for since Wednesday...

Is that a fire table?

I am having an outdoor kitchen built as we speak. They are cutting 12" granite tile for the surface.

Yeah it has been a while but I have been planning my attack on the electrical.

I have been looking for some accent lighting and it has not been easy. I finally found some and ordered them but got an email saying they are back ordered until 9-23-10 so I cancelled that order and had to find new ones. Ordered those last night and should have a 3 day delivery guarantee if they are in stock.

Then I have been planning how to run the flexible conduit through the island without it getting too close to the grill. Finally found a route and got it ran last night.

I have been to Lowes and Home Depot getting different things every day this week for the electrical. I buy something and it doesnt work for every scenerio on my kitchen. Like today I have to get a different electrical outlet box because the one I got yesterday works for around the grill but doesnt work on the small island. It has been trial and error, but I think I have it knocked out and should have the electrical and maybe even the backer board up tomorrow.

Yeah I couldnt have a stainless steel grate custom fabricated and not throw in an A&M reference.

Another change to the lighting has happened. I just cancelled the second order and placed the order for these.

Here they are in action on someone elses grill.
