In late May, Texas A&M authorized a new contract for Texas A&M head men's basketball coach Bucky McMillan. Fresh off an NCAA Tournament appearance in his first season, McMillan's new deal runs through 2032 and will pay him a base salary of $4.1 million next season.

After taking over an empty program and exceeding expectations in Year 1, Bucky McMillan signed a new contract in March after his first season at the helm of Texas A&M basketball.

That contract was officially authorized by Texas A&M University president Dr. Susan Ballabina on May 20.

Revealed via opens records request, McMillan’s new deal runs through 2032 and will pay him an average of $4.35 million annually.

Trev Alberts and A&M made a commitment to secure the long-term future of this program and reward McMillan for what he and his Aggies accomplished against nearly impossible odds in the 2025-26 season.

Despite having zero scholarship players on the roster in mid-April, being two weeks late to the transfer portal and losing his most talented player to a season-ending injury, McMillan guided A&M to a fourth-place finish in the SEC and an NCAA Tournament win over No. 7 seed Saint Mary’s.

Since the contract extension was first reported by TexAgs’ Billy Liucci, McMillan landed a top-10 transfer portal class that includes the nation’s leading returning scorer in PJ Haggerty and locked up multiple key returners. The Aggies are heading into Year 2 of the Bucky Ball era with high hopes and a high ceiling.

When McMillan was hired last April, he agreed to a five-year, $16 million deal that set his base salary at $3 million and increased it by $100,000 per year until he reached $3.4 million in his fifth and final year in 2029-30.

McMillan’s new six-year deal runs until 2032 and has added an additional $1 million to his base salary, taking him from one of the lowest-paid coaches in the SEC to inside the top 10. He is now a top-30 highest-paid coach in college basketball.

He was expected to make $3.1 million in 2026-27 but will now make $4.1 million.

During the 2025-26 season, McMillan hauled in an additional $75,000 in incentives for making the NCAA Tournament and advancing to the Round of 32, bringing his total pay to $3,075,000. If the Aggies had advanced to the Sweet 16 or McMillan had been named SEC Coach of the Year, he would’ve hauled in an additional $125,000.

In his new contract, the incentives will remain the exact same, but McMillan now has an additional $200,000 to work with for his assistant coaches pool, going from $2.2 million to $2.4 million. Additionally, the NCAA Tournament bonuses are not cumulative.

Most have been good with a first year successful coach only to disappointed the next few years. A coaching extension at A&M is the kiss of death!
