that poly sand works great, did some pavers last year, just sweep in and then take a mist spray to it.

good job so far

Alright, well I was finally able to get halfway done with the new stones I cut the other day.

Here is the before and after:

Here are some more taken of different views of the patio as of today.

And this area is left after I finish the other side.

What does your dog think about you taking his yard?

Great looking patio, keep the updates coming.

Its funny you ask, this morning I think they have had enough and decided to do their business on the decomposed granite by the concrete. Hopefully later on when it is all flagged they will realize they have to go on the new Zoysia grass.

Great job. Looks really good.

Speck has a point on the flowerbed soil/mulch height to the siding. Ideally we look for 6 inches to the siding. Try to have as much as you can and make sure you can always see some of the foundation edge and you should be okay. Keep the plants under control as they grow. Also make sure that you maintained your drainage away from the house in the beds. I see many that inadvertently create little pools for water to gather next to the foundation - that can be bad.

I am done with the "right" side of the patio, but not without some issues.

If you plan to do any of this dont get lazy and cut corners. I did towards the end of the edging stone.

Luckily I didnt have any problems with the edge stone by the existing concrete patio and was able to install the flagstone without incident.

Here is a picture of the edging I am talking about.

I wanted it to be a "vanishing edge" so I had the edge stone pitching away from the porch and when it was finally ending into the grass I stopped. The more edging stones I put in the more I wanted to stop so I gradually increased the pitch so I could stop sooner.

Here are the problem stones, luckily only the last two.

The white stones were keeping the edge flagstone from matching up with the pitch of the others so ended up taking the two problem stones out.

After I took them out I was able to level out the edge pieces correctly.

I think the edging will end up looking ok when the new grass is put in.

Here is what it looks like after you level the stones and before the clean up.

After clean up.

A few views and I know they seem to be the same but now all the stones are set except for the obvious ones on the kitchen side.

Wow! I love how your dog gets in the photos.. and even in your drawing of the plan.

Yeah adding the dog to the sketch was the finishing touch.

The weather kept me from doing much yesterday but I am about to get out there and lay some flagstone.
Olag00
How long do you want to ignore this user?
With the weather raining off and on during the day, I was only able to get 2 more rows of stone laid before turning my attention to other home improvements inside.

Hopefully the weather will cooperate tomorrow and I can get back to the flagstones.

Looks good cstxag90!

I ran out of stone so I have another delivery of about 100sq ft coming and then it will be back to the grind.

Not hard to do, (run out of stone) we burned through 4 pallets in no time and still doing walkways here and there. I've tackled many pretty extensive diy projects, and stone patios is in the conversation of absolute hardest work. I tip my hat to you to still be at it. We did ours late Jan - Feb. Much cooler, but smashing a cold finger has it's own unique qualities.

Cedar. 6"x6"x12' and 2"x6"x12' then 2"x2"x12' up top. Do not recall the prices, but it was a bit steep. I got all this from Woodson's in Bryan. Those are some pretty good folks over there. I try to get stuff from them when I can (local business) but I'm ashamed to say I love the convenience of Lowe's too.

No progress this past weekend

I was getting out there on Sunday and my Rotozip died on me. Now I am watching Amazon for a deal on a Dremel or other rotary saw for replacement.

Hopefully I can make some progress this weekend since I am off Friday.

If you have a circular saw, just get diamond blade(s). They worked great though VERY loud. You (as I was) may be tempted to get the cheaper blades. They wear out 3 times faster so you do not save money and have to keep changing blades.

for some reason or another, my Rotozip started working again. I plugged it in and turned it on before I was deciding to go to Home Depot to get another one and it mysteriously started working again.

I hear you on the blades. I started off with the chip blades but then got the $25 diamond blades and they have been great.

Looks like tomorrow morning, I will be getting back out there I just wish it would cool off a bit

I built a horse barn this time last summer when it was getting over 100. It was brutal, I feel for you.

Well I was able to get out there today and get some flagstone laid, but not without problems. My original rotozip bit the dust. Had to run to out to the new Lowes on the south side to another one.

This is where it was:

This was early this morning:

This is now:

I was able to get 2 rows done and 1 more row going the other way:

I could not stay out in the heat all day if it wasnt for the canopy investment. Although it has already started to fall apart. One of the cross arms broke so I had to get some string and "fix" it.

Here are some random photos from today:

Tomorrow morning I get to weed eat the backyard before I start setting stone, since I cant mow it with all the flags laying around.

Today was a long a day and I will probably get back out there after I eat something. I had to go get another 1000 lbs of flagstone this morning after getting started and realizing I was not going to be able to finish it. So instead of setting the stones I knew I could set, I decided to go get the extra stones since they are closed tomorrow and I didnt want to run out.

Here are the progress pictures for today:

I don't want the labor; just give me the baby!

OH, and nice work.

second the earlier comment about rain gutters on the back of the house, not just above the beds.

you may want to consider putting in a few french drains near the edges of the deck where the water is expected to funnel.

are you sure one bedroom plug can run all of that you have planned outdoors?

also hope you checked your easements and building codes before you poured that concrete.
Olag00
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I did call the city before I started this and they told me i would not need a permit for the concrete since it was only being used for cabinets and counters.

However, I did need one for the electrical work. Of course I didnt get one so I am debating on not hooking up the electric and just using a cooler built in to the counter tops, or if I should install the electric, keep it until I go to sell the house which at that time I would disconnect the electric from the house and fill the hole in the hardiplank with silicon.

The electrical was only to support a minifridge and a small water fountain. There is not much amperage being used for those two items.

The code says a separate circuit is only needed if the equipment draws 6+ amps.
Olag00
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Also, if I ever add a pergola or any other shade structure 6' or higher, I will need a permit.

That's interesting. Is that for something attached to the house, or is it *any* structure?
Olag00
How long do you want to ignore this user?
If the structure cannot be set 15' from property easement then it will need to get permitted. At least that is what my memory says.

Ah, ok. That makes more sense. I was wondering how some of my neighbors had managed to pass that.

looking better each time i check the thread, you working on it this weekend?
Olag00
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yep, I will be out there starting around 4:30 today and hopefully finish up the stone tomorrow. Then on to the "easier" task of building the kitchen.
Olag00
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Well it is almost done. It seems like it never ends but it should be finished by tomorrow.

I did some cleaning up of the flagstone yesterday, now I just have to dispose of it somehow.

Here are the progress pics:

Hopefully tomorrow I can show the final stone being laid.
