He's done at -7, looks like there may be a playoff for those at -8.

Solid round today for Sam. 2 under 70. Birdies on 17 and 18 were great way to finish. Bad 3 putt from 20 feet on front 9 (6 I think) and a double bogey on par 3 9th were costly. 4 under for the tournament through 3 rounds.
and another one, make that 4! With the easy par 5 left.'03ag said:

So I was curious about this. On the PGA Tour website, it shows zero points earned. But I thought to earn his tour card he needed to be in top 125 in FedEx Cup points using his sponsor exemptions? Or is his only route the KF Tour/Q-school?AgLA06 said:GigEmJake17 said:whelp. Wasn't easy but is in a good spot to make 6 figures!GigEmJake17 said:and another one, make that 4! And his KF exempt membership is only for this season (2023).
Couple things. Points probably haven't updated yet, he got some from this event and the Memorial. He can get card this year through points or money earned. If he doesn't, he advances to the final stage of q school this fall with a chance to earn a card. If that doesn't work then he has FULL Korn Ferry membership next year in 24. He also can take unlimited sponsor exemptions as well (may not make sense unless he gets a lot because he would miss on KFT points).Buck Compton said:So I was curious about this. Yeah, that's what I was curious on. It doesn't look like you get FedEx Cup points as a non-member playing only on sponsor exemptions, as points have updated for everyone else. But I was under the impression you could as a Special Temporary Member (which would override KFT status).1872walker said:Buck Compton said:So I was curious about this. I don't believe Kornferry Tour members (Bennet has full status on KFT) receive FedEx (PGA Tour) points That changed for this year's US Open and Sam would get KFT Points from that event should he make the cut.
I think his path to the PGA Tour is finishing high enough on the KFT or winning a PGA Tour event via his sponsors exemptions (or winning the US Open).
He can accrue FedEx points but they don't count on the FedEx list unless he has his Card. Like Akshay Bhatia if he accrues enough points he can earn a Special Temporary Membership for the rest of the year. This would give him time to earn his actual card, The unlimited Sponsor exemptions will be big for him. He is a great story and the way he is playing, one would expect him should get him his card, this year or next.Buck Compton said:Yeah, that's what I was curious on. I know there's rules and a process, but man, you gotta look at the way Sam has competed in the majors and tour events, he is clearly one of the best 125 golfers in the world and should have his card. If he keeps it up, he will earn it as you mentioned. Just wish PGA made it easier for top college golfers to earn an actual card right out gates, like say top 5 vs only 1Budruex3 said:He can accrue FedEx points but they don't count on the FedEx list unless he has his Card. I think people are really not appreciating the unlimited sponsor exemptions through the end of 2024. Most only get 7 a year. As long as he can keep getting invited he may as well have his card. That is until he actually earns itGigEmJake17 said:I know there's rules and a process, but man, you gotta look at the way Sam has competed in the majors and tour events, he is clearly one of the best 125 golfers in the world and should have his card. Another top 20 finish in a major and I'd have to think he'll get to play whatever PGA tournament he wants this year.
That's four spots taken away from guys who busted their asses playing on the other professional tours. Those guys are no less deserving (and in my opinion, they're more deserving) of those spots.GigEmJake17 said:I know there's rules and a process, but man, you gotta look at the way Sam has competed in the majors and tour events, he is clearly one of the best 125 golfers in the world and should have his card. My idea is to have 5 extra spots for the top college golfers and give them a full season to prove it, not take it away from 5 that earned it!RealTalk said:That's four spots taken away from guys who busted their asses playing on the other professional tours.
