He's done at -7, looks like there may be a playoff for those at -8.

That Dallas qualifier was a murderer's row. Other names that also missed qualifying that were within a shot of Ryan Palmer...

Ryan Moore, Doug Ghim, Graham McDowell, Michael Kim, Cody Gribble

Bennet comes in at -2 and currently T29 at the RBC. He nearly aced 9 (his final hole). Video can be see on the PGA Tour app with TourCast when you click on his scorecard.

Bennet is at -3 now and today started in the front 9 which is the harder of the two. I could see him getting to -5 or 6 if he keeps this up. Nice bounce back after a couple of mid round bogies yesterday.

C. Champ finished at -1 for the day, E for the tournament. Will miss it by a one unless the cut goes up a stroke.

Double bogey on 9 really hurt Sam or he would be having a great day! Still, playing solid golf.

Solid round today for Sam. 2 under 70. Birdies on 17 and 18 were great way to finish. Bad 3 putt from 20 feet on front 9 (6 I think) and a double bogey on par 3 9th were costly. 4 under for the tournament through 3 rounds.

So I was curious about this. On the PGA Tour website, it shows zero points earned. But I thought to earn his tour card he needed to be in top 125 in FedEx Cup points using his sponsor exemptions? Or is his only route the KF Tour/Q-school?

And his KF exempt membership is only for this season (2023).

I don't believe Kornferry Tour members (Bennet has full status on KFT) receive FedEx (PGA Tour) points That changed for this year's US Open and Sam would get KFT Points from that event should he make the cut.

I think his path to the PGA Tour is finishing high enough on the KFT or winning a PGA Tour event via his sponsors exemptions (or winning the US Open).

Couple things. Points probably haven't updated yet, he got some from this event and the Memorial. He can get card this year through points or money earned. If he doesn't, he advances to the final stage of q school this fall with a chance to earn a card. If that doesn't work then he has FULL Korn Ferry membership next year in 24. He also can take unlimited sponsor exemptions as well (may not make sense unless he gets a lot because he would miss on KFT points).

EDIT: Maybe he can't earn points and it is money only? Not completely sure.

Yeah, that's what I was curious on. It doesn't look like you get FedEx Cup points as a non-member playing only on sponsor exemptions, as points have updated for everyone else. But I was under the impression you could as a Special Temporary Member (which would override KFT status).

I believe Sam has to accrue enough FedEx cup points as the person who was #125 on last year's list.

If he does that I think he gets his card?

Sam went from a OWGR of 540 before the Canadian open to 469 after it. He has won a little over $146,000 in his first two weeks as a professional. Slowly climbing the ladder. But a long way to go still......I bet his caddie is happy with this start. Not a bad first two weeks for him either.

He can accrue FedEx points but they don't count on the FedEx list unless he has his Card. Like Akshay Bhatia if he accrues enough points he can earn a Special Temporary Membership for the rest of the year. This would give him time to earn his actual card, The unlimited Sponsor exemptions will be big for him. He is a great story and the way he is playing, one would expect him should get him his card, this year or next.

Forget all of that, Just WIN the US OPEN, SAM!!!!!

I know there's rules and a process, but man, you gotta look at the way Sam has competed in the majors and tour events, he is clearly one of the best 125 golfers in the world and should have his card. If he keeps it up, he will earn it as you mentioned. Just wish PGA made it easier for top college golfers to earn an actual card right out gates, like say top 5 vs only 1

I think people are really not appreciating the unlimited sponsor exemptions through the end of 2024. Most only get 7 a year. As long as he can keep getting invited he may as well have his card. That is until he actually earns it

Unless he has some really good finishes (top 10ish), he's probably going to run out of time to accrue enough points this season. There are only 7 weeks of tournaments left in the regular season after this one (including the smaller tournaments played during the week of the Scottish Open and British Open).

Bennett, Champ and Palmer are headed to the Travelers this week. I'm pumped to watch this tournament as I'll be playing this course later this Summer.

Bennett's last 5 weeks:

Travelers (Connecticut)
US Open (LA)
Canadian Open (Toronto)
Memorial (Ohio)
NCAA (Arizona)

Pretty sure he is planning on playing the Rocket Mortgage in Detroit next week, too.
