Yep. There were good players, but they were all older than Tiger. There was no one with the same physical abilities. Now there are so many that are so close. Totally different.

It wasn't poor. But none of them mash the ball like a whole slew of guys do now. Tiger was like an alien landing. Tiger changed so much that a generation of players has been able to learn from and attempt to emulate.

There's also the psychological factor. These young guys never faced him in his prime so they're not intimidated.

Tiger's dominance created this generation of golfers and it's the best generation of golfers in history from a volume standpoint. Golf never had the popularity it did before tiger. It's no indictment of the past or anything. In all sports, if it's healthy and excellence shines through, then future generations will be better.

But Tiger's lasting legacy will be that he created 10x more than the usual crop of great players with his popularity and dominance.

Fun watching him grind to keep up with guys better than him (currently) in every phase of the game. It's how it should be now that he's in his 40's
