The above is my post. 6 would be a 1/2 dozen, 5 would be nearly 6, therefore being 5 games back, you are nearly 1/2 a dozen games back. Did you miss some logic along the way?
To answer your questions,
12 is bigger than 5, though I'm not sure why that's relevant. Neither are relevant to the Astros right now as they are 0 games back of anybody in the division.
5+8 is 13. Again, not sure why this is important. Is it a moral victory that you're still middle of the pack in the division by nearly 1/2 a dozen games?
