When you cut the walls out, you have to reinforce them. Usually unrecycled, new, expensive steel that totally negates the "affordable" or "environmentally friendly" aspects of container homes.

Plus you have to insulate them. Many container home developers order custom 9' tall containers.

You're paying just as much to have a crappy looking house that's not any better than a normal stick framed house.

And how do you normally insulate them you might ask? By 2x4 framing and putting either fiberglass insulation or spray foam.

At the end of the day its choosing a siding material first and then working backwards to create a house.

The crazy part is how much money was devoted to a one bedroom airplane hanger. And you can't easily make it more than one bedroom because its in the center of the house with a walk around balcony. Like you're going to have a 2nd deck audience judging you in bed.

That neighborhood on those lakes just have insane prices. I can understand a premium for large lots, old trees and a "lake", but holy crap is the neighborhood just on a different cost basis for land outside of the city. So nice to sit on your back porch and hear 90A as well as hwy 59.

I assume every home owner in that neighborhood is a doctor who didn't want to live in memorial.

As a nearby landowner, the construction of the two "hangers" took.....a very long time. With some major periods of inactivity.
For the main "party/1-bedroom" building, the view from the road is nothing but metal (and five A/C units). But all out on the pool and deck side.

It was built in the mid-90's, and Marti's son lived in it for a few years.

They spent a ton of money for the place to look like absolute garbage.

Almost a literal white elephant!!

Call me crazy, but don't you generally want a little space between your back door and your pool?

Now that I'm looking on desktop I can see what a big part of the problem is, someone had a giant-ass beige house that was built during peak Tuscan in 2006. Then somebody wanted to change things up, but went about it kind of half-assed because it would be stupid expensive to modify all of those elements that were built into the actual design of the house and this is the disaster you get.

Ugly gray floors, HGTV inspired deck railing, fake antiquing on all of the ceilings, beams, cabinets, and vanities, slap some trim on windows and doors, and take anything with a warmer tone and turn it a shade of white/gray to try and force anything but Tuscan. And it fails completely.

The biggest problem the place had was the kitchen design but fixing it would've cost who knows how much more. What kind of idiot thought it was a good idea to split it in half, and who's the bigger idiot who said "sounds great, I'll take it!" The $89 microwave pulled straight from someone's room in Dunn Hall makes no sense next to a 48" counter depth refrigerator either.

I don't even want to think about that roof design.... once a McMansion, always a McMansion!

Nothing irritates me more than wasting a nice location on an ugly a$$ house. At least it's not right on the water, although I'm certain there are some just as ugly that are.

Looks like about 5 buckets of white paint exploded in there and they weren't quite able to clean it up in time.

They very well might have put that white wash over real wood...

It annoys me to no end when people paint high-quality wood cabinetry. I'm not talking trash or damaged cabinets that can't be salvaged. Many of the homes in my subdivision have Benedettini cabinetry made with maple, alder, or cherry. Not top-of-the-line, but nice. They're painting over these cabinets on the advice of a realtor in order to update the house for a quick sale at top dollar. I get it. But they're not doing a good job, they're just slapping some crappy white paint on these cabinets. It makes me sad.

Even on the kitchen cabinet bottoms. Yuk. But then they compound the ugliness with this:



The hardware on the drawers is too wide, IMO.

There's just so much ugly going on in that house. It is stunning, though.
