Washington doing what you're supposed to do. Putting pieces around a good young QB on a rookie deal. Sucks to think they have competent ownership and management now.

Which is EXACTLY what I thought we should have done in 2016 after Dak & Zeke came in and went 13-3 in year 1. We had some Romo dead money to deal with, but we could have restructured other deals etc. and made our run right then.

But nope... Stephen & Jerry sat back and pretended they were gonna be smart and build this 10 year Dynasty..... Instead what we got was 10 years of a team that is best described as "Mostly Harmless".

And by judging what's happening today, not a damn thing has changed.

Far from certain, but likely a move that signals moving on from Dowdle. I'm good with that, we've likely seen his best football already.

I think we go into the draft with the mindset of drafting a new RB1.

I like the idea, assuming Jeanty is gone, of trading back from 12 into the late teens or early 20s. We take a RB (Hampton, Henderson or Johnson) and problem solved. Now we have an extra day 2 pick and we start rebuilding our lines.

Signing Javontae fits the Cowboys MO of signing low-mid level free agents to fill the glaring needs on the roster so they aren't completely desperate on draft day.

Not entirely sure how well that works for them.

I am an OL/DL guy. Cowboys need both. The LT they took last year was and will be a bust.
1st roundwill campbell, membou, banks
Graham, Stewart
McMillan
Will Johnson

I want to come away with one of those 7. If all gone and I am not really sure I would include Stewart in that then I am good with trading down. No way am I taking a RB here.
If trade down then I am looking:
Stewart for sure
The next 3 DE's on big board
Jiheed Campbell
Walter Nolan

If they are gone then I take Hampton.

I am then looking WR, but I really only like McMillan in 1sr couple rounds.

I think the next run on RBs will be round 3 and I go get best avail.

At those point, fans willing to drive to Arlington, pay $75 parking, spend $300+ per ticket are just doing it for the concession stand nachos.

Radio said this morning that the Cowboys have signed 1 FA (forgot who they said it was) for more than a 6m/yr since 2015.

Pretty sure it was Greg Hardy and he was already damaged goods. I keep hearing the last outright signing of a top FA that wasn't on an injury or behavior discount was Carr in 2012

Signed Solomon Thomas. Played HS ball at Coppell. Was the #3 pick in that atrocious 2017 draft that saw us pick Taco over TJ Watt.

Good. He needs more touches in the offense.

Jerrah's locked down the punter and the punt returner. Time to get serious and start going after WR#4 and a dime coverage DB for the practice squad.

That, sir, was the greatest post in the history of TexAgs. I salute you. -- Dough

He sees the amount of money daddy is draining on lawyers and struggling business ventures.

His oil & gas business is upside down by like half a billion. I've heard from several people it's in one pocket and out the other with him right now.

Comstock? He's doubled his investment. Made over a billion so far.

Interesting. Multiple people have told me otherwise. Not saying you're wrong. Just passing along info.

You know, we had a conversation a while back about how the Cowboys are one of the cheapest in the league when it comes to cash spending every year.

On that same subject, I heard people talking the other day about how we restructured more deals and how that could only mean 2 things. One is we use the cap space to sign new players right now and make this team better. The second is we free up the space now, don't really do much with it, and make our cap situation worse in the future so that Jerry/Stephen can continue to use the excuse that "we want to sign everyone, but we can only do what the cap allows us to do".

I flat out dismissed that 2nd option when I heard it. No way, right? I'm really really starting to feel differently about that right now. Are they seriously tanking our cap on purpose? Surely somebody like Will McClay wouldn't still be here if that nonsense was going on.

We've had double digit cap space leftover every year for the past several years. I remember being very frustrated in 2023 when we had that awesome run, were sitting on 25 mil in cap space, and did nothing in FA or at the trade deadline

Don't want to make too big of a deal about this, but this is a good signing that is low risk that is certainly one of those Will McClay specials. This is a guy with great potential but has had some injury issues. If, big if, he can stay healthy, this is a quality signing.
