Nah. I think the injuries and poor OL play was the biggest issue for Houston. Guy was a legit HC candidate last year.

I agree the problems were not all his doing because of the injuries, but his play calling really was head scratching at times.
I don't think he'd be a terrible hire, but I don't like getting coordinators fresh off a firing. Let them go figure it out a year.
I'd think shottenheimer will be calling the plays, right? If so, won't matter a huge deal on OC

One thing I think we've all wished for is a young innovative play caller. Just a year ago he was being talked about as the new young hot OC.

I think Mangini makes some good points here. There is no guarantee Johnson or Glenn will be better than Scotty. It's all a gamble. As someone said in the comments, I think we're all just so worn out on Jerry's process.
If this is successful it's inspite of Jerry, not because of him.
Someone on a podcast I was listening to had a great view on the hiring of BS; it's not the hiring of BS that is the issue, it's the process they went through to hire BS that is the issue. Piddle farting around with McCarthy when both he and Jerry were one foot out the door with each other, wasting a week to interview other candidates, then interviewing no one outside of your organization or network that has a real chance to get the job (Salah and Frazier were Rooney rule interviews). It's how we got to BS that is the biggest issue.

Good post. Also, those of us who have been following just how poorly managed the football side of things are under Jerry realize it doesn't matter who the coach is. They are reactive in every aspect of football. They don't make the necessary moves to be a top tier team. The head coach starts every season behind the 8-ball. The roster has so many holes and none of them will be adequately addressed.
This hire really makes a great deal of sense. I believe Brian's Dad has the most wins of any NFL coach to have not won a Super Bowl. Great in the regular season, collapse in the playoffs. So Brian's whole life has prepared him for how to handle this job.

I would agree w those, but I don't think it's insurmountable.
I think everyone forgets this team is just over a year from 13 wins and a first round bye w a QB that was second in MVP voting.
It's definitely not insurmountable but you have to fix the middle of the defense to have a shot and at least 2 seasons ago they were decent up the middle. If a team wanted to right now they could run it right at them the entire game.
RB and WR2 can easily be addressed in the middle to late rounds.

Don't forget OL replacing Martin. The offense, like the Aggies, lacks any real speed or explosiveness outside of Lamb.
We know Jerry can't or won't address all of these needs. It's going to be another patch work team full of C letter players.

I know you're saying this tongue in cheek, but Saquon and Jeanty are worlds different RBs. Not saying Jeanty isn't special or great, but Saquon is a HOF/generational type of RB talent. He needs to be properly appreciated imo.
I personally think jeanty is going to be a quick household name next level, but still wouldn't go there with our pick, especially for what it would take to get him as I'm sure he'll go top 10

It's just such a deep year at the RB spot. You can get a really good player in the 4th round that would have been drafted well before Brooks was last year.

I certainly don't like the miles on the kid. Probably has 6-8 yrs tops. We shall see
