I know they have been selling new stock and have flirted with bankruptcy but they seem to be a buy with potential upside due to the next giant stimulus. Any insight on if we think they go Chapter 11 and I would get wiped out or if stock sale, a few movies and a new stimulus would lead to a big upside as we emerge from COVID?

If not, any other recommendations on stocks to hop in on?

Thought they were a good buy at $10. Having a hard time not buying a lotto ticket / doubling down under $3.

Movie theaters are not long for this world anymore. COVID ushered in the era of direct to consumer. Several studios have already adjusted their agreements with theaters as to how long a movie has to be out in theaters before it can go to digital/DVD. Personally, I believe there are far better options out there to invest in than a dying/lagging industry. Also, AMC is owned my Wanda Group which is a CCP lap dog.

Theaters will come back. But not for another 6-9 months.

Theaters will come back, but I think there will be fewer and the business model will be drastically different. I am thinking the movie experience is going to look more like Alamo Drafthouse where they push more high margin goods onto the viewer.

It's easy to think the Covid world will last forever but it won't. Theaters will be back and will continue just as they always have. Don't know when, just know that they will.

You're telling me 5 years from now when Covid is a complete and total afterthought that movie theaters debuting new films won't be a thing?

I think AMC will be around five years from now but I can't see how they avoid (or would want to avoid at this point) Chapter 11 before then; this kind of reminds me of the airlines and AMC is going to be the AA of the group.

I bet on studios releasing directly to consumers... built an in-home theater as a result

No more paying $10 for popcorn

No way studios continue releasing directly to consumers, at least for major blockbusters. The problem with directly releasing to consumers is that consumers can share content with others, and can watch it multiple times without additional charges. Digital releases also increase the opportunity for pirated versions. Studios will lose billions if they continue direct releasing blockbusters.

Theaters will definitely bounce back somewhat, although there will clearly be major changes to the industry.

I'm in 5k shares atm with a 3.25 avg so I'm sitting pretty good. Looking to get in after the market opens tomorrow and will buy any dips. Not sure if there will be any. Remember to not gamble and always have a stoploss in place and to preserve your capital.

Where do you realistically think this tops out at?

Right now, it's a 100% gamble bet. The reason you'd want to jump in on this is it will most likely be where /r/wallstreetbets turns their attention to once GME is done. So if you get it now before it really rockets, you'll make some good money.

But it's also possible they decide not to run with this and it tank again.

GME has twice the short interest, 130%, vs the next behind it, AMC was at around 65% last I checked. So I don't think it will be as intense, but really there is no predicting this market or the group behavior of millions of redditors and retail traders.

Additionally it has a higher float, so more shares are able to be traded and it has very low institutional ownership, 18% vs GME's 78% institutional ownership. Retail owners will be quicker to sell.
