Hmm, never would have guessed volatility would peak here. Maybe I should close this VXX spread I've got.

OSTK into the 50s now. Ridiculous.

Worst part is, I've seen some people forecast it down to the 40s again before a bounce back up again. I'm 72 AVG here on this now and seeing in the 50s is painful much less the 40s.
Agree, I had to bail. I would set a stop if you need to manage some risk, unless it's in an IRA and you just want to hold no matter what. Support is now 54, nearest resistance around 59.

I will re enter when the covid crap and lockdowns go away (and oil prices stabilize). You may get a great entry in a few weeks. Some think it's just the election. It is, but there's a lot more going on in the world that could send us lower. Much of Europe on lockdown for a full month is going to have an effect on everything. Sucks, but is what it is.

Demark is like any other indicator. It CAN be wrong. I'll say that I closed most of my hedge, but rolled enough up that if VIX keeps going, I can still capitalize on it.

I'm out of all options plays now except for a 12/18 spread. Over the last month I've traded options on 27 different occasions, with a win or breakeven on 23/27, however my losses on my 4 trades were double what my profits were. That seems insane to me, but the lesson there is pretty plain to see. I need to limit my losses and size my trades better. I got burned on DIS, RKT and AMD calls. The RKT was "such a sure winner" and the AMD was going to $100 without a doubt, so I bought more contracts, and held for too long waiting on a turn around. Learned a lot! I'll let things settle, and be ready to play again after we see how next week shakes out. Been having a lot of fun doing this with you guys!

Interesting close.

Im getting assigned RKT at $20, happy to wheel this one for a bit. May sell another put if it keeps dipping next week.

My only calls that aren't leaps are some Nov20 RKT which I should have dumped at 50% loss earlier this week, but I didn't because I never learn my lessons.

I'm also holding those JPM Nov20 which have held up very nicely in this **** show.

Have a good wkend everyone!

It was hard the last few weeks, but this week made me glad that I (and a lot of us) hedged and had money sitting on the sideline going in to the election

Here's for a good result next week and a better week for all of us (and the Ags killing the pigs tomorrow night)

Yeah those AMD calls were rough. Took to zero twice expecting it to recover after flushing weak hands... My diamond hands held to the end.

This thread is a lot of fun even on bad days. Y'all make me laugh throughout any given day and on 'red' days we all need a laugh now and then. Have a great weekend and BTHO the little pigs.

Mostly just shorts closing positions. I'll be curious if there's any follow through on Monday or if that rip just gets sold off.

A very good trader and friend noticed that none of the FAANG + Microsoft + Twitter gave any real guidance yesterday. He believes it was intentional. Have a great weekend!

VOXX - This is a 10 Day Hourly chart. Will it repeat tomorrow? Don't know but 4th time may also work. Volume has been lower right before it moves above the bull flag and popped above today.

This did not work today. Monitored it but broke the bottom of the flag like many things. I will continue watching it for a rebound. The big earlier volume didn't sell off so appears still holding.

Can someone explain OSTK to me? Over the last two years, their high was $29.75 until their explosion in July. Going back to last October up until the Covid crash, the high was only $10. What caused this to spike like crazy in general making this such a great stock? Do people actually shop on Overstock and buy things from there all of a sudden?

Need to look closely but I believe its now trading at like 2Xs revenue. Blockchain tech which has lotsa positive pub getting no consideration in the valuation. Plus it's got leadership in place that's considered really good. This is going to require patience but I'd think this will be back near 100 within 6 mths and 125ish within a year. But the market is irrational and also who knows with lack of stimulus possibly going into next year.
Concur with this, overall sentiment is that TZero and Medici are getting zero consideration in the value calc.
Interesting. Thanks all. I'm not familiar with them enough to know about those details and also haven't studied their financials. Just wasn't sure what justified such a crazy turnaround all of a sudden.

I've only known them from like a decade ago as a company that sold stuff online. At the time, I actually thought it was supposed to be things that were overstocked and selling at a discount. They weren't really even selling at a discount though and from an ad promo I saw this past year I realized they don't really have anything to do with overstock items. Just a poorly named company I feel like.

This. I learned a long time ago when we did a start up apparel company not to box yourself in with the name. They are far more than 'overstocked' items now.

I know we're all in similar boats but 3 weeks ago I had one of my best days of the year. In my heart of hearts I knew I should make a bigger move to cash to wait out the election and add to an already sizeable move to cash I had made. But instead, I thought the market would get one more big green day and I'd unload then. It never happened.

That's my pain point right now knowing I did that. Also, not selling more OSTK pre market yesterday when it was up 15% was full on incompetence.

OSTK is another great example. Hovers in the high 60s to low 70s, spikes about 20% to the 83-84 range on good earnings only to fall into the high 50s a few hours later. Huge swing. Painful swing.

I can find myself guilty at times of FOMO of more upside. Lock in profits, wait for the dust to settle and buy back in if a long. If you miss some upside so be it. If the stock has support and continues its journey you may have lost a little profit but you avoided potential loss of your capital. Sometimes the hard part can be letting winners be winners and balancing banking profits. After all...it's 2020. Anything rational is out the window.

IMO based on the recent weeks volatility there may be more of the same for weeks to come. With that said not banking profits and letting ride at the moment speculating sentiment and reactions either way is risky. Above are a few examples where profit was taken and not taken.

Depending on how far out your dates are I'd be banking profit. Just my 2 cents.
