AMD another breakout to big resistance, I think the cat is now out of the bag on this one too. I'm hoping for a little consolidation today now and will look to double my position tomorrow hopefully around 55-56 range. I would love to get it under 55 but it may not stop. First entry was 54 last week.
welp, I'll be getting called out of my weeklies for AMD covered calls

ROLLLLLLL
how do you execute that?

Buy back the one you've sold and sell a new one further out of it makes financial sense
Is it good strategy to wait until closer to the bell on Friday? There's a slight chance I don't get called out still.

Otherwise I could buy to close for 1.4, and sell to open another for next week for 1.18.

Yes, if it's borderline. Theta will eat it tomorrow.

Sell time and higher strike on the next one of you can to get more credit and more on the strike if exercised (on a resale)

Don't get me started on what I almost did last night. Not at my computer now to write it out but y'all may wake up to a good story tomorrow morning that is similar.
Similar to mine or a similar move in Roku tomorrow morning? Trying to figure out if I should hold my $160 CC's for tomorrow or bail and lose 50-100%.

Long time lurker, first time poster here.

Has anyone else been riding AMZN calls with me the past two weeks? I recklessly went all in and it's getting to the point where it's a life changing amount for me and my young family. Student loans may be completely paid off now. I don't want to get greedy and mess it up.

Question is, should we sell before earnings call? I know amazon fell short last quarter, but I know Bezos likes to reinvest earnings to limit tax liabilities and the market seems to not care too much. Thoughts?
congrats. Can you sell a covered position out 30 days that gives you some upside left but takes risk off? Ie: generates some cash.

TikTok is going down, unsure how that could affect FB, TWTR, etc.

I would guess most of their top influencers go to twitter, if they aren't already there.
what do you mean going down?
looks like it was just a glitch, but people videos were disappearing and #tiktokdown and #savetiktok were the top trends on twitter. Coupled with the news that the military is banning soldiers from having it and DOJ looking into it for spying, I guess people just panicking.

Thanks for talking sense into me ya'll. I'm going to sell 3/4s of my contracts and lock in the gains. I've just sold too early so many times and it's painful to see how much you could have made.

It's probably a small amount to a lot of people on here, but getting from under student loans ( 7% interest) will be huge.
PREACH!

Great job, and I hope you keep having success.

Be sure to understand the short term gains tax for this trade.
WGAF about short term gains if he's made a mint? Think of the pressure he can remove from his family, permanently, by selling. Even if he gets hit with a tax bill that he can't meet, he can set up repayment program to the IRS.
I assume he was just saying not to forget about taxes and find yourself in a cash crunch come tax time.

I know, but if I could pay off mine and my wife's student loans with one trade, I'd do it. You can work out a payment system with the IRS and they're very understanding now with the covid.

TTOO looking based. Bought back a lot of sold shares. Heck with $2.50 options near $0.50 out to late year it's not much risk in my book. I just buy them, wait to see if we rally and if not i sell the $2.50 covered calls.

How long do you wait for a rally before you sell the CC? My 7/17 CCs will be rolling off next week, so this is relevant to my interest even if not buying any more shares.

I made a good bit of $$ on ROKU last year but left quite a bit on the table. Back in April I bought ROKU and Apple in my SEP/IRA. That has been real good.

At that same time I bought Amazon and Microsoft in my regular account. This money we will use to build our retirement home starting the end of this year. These two have been really, really good. Hate to sell Amazon. And may not need to as the house we are in now will sell for more money than I had anticipated, plus Microsoft is really helping.

Now, if things will just settle down in Aggieland I will be a very happy camper.

Do yall remember HEAR? Wish I had held onto it.

All of the talk on 8/21 EMA got me looking around and it looks like GRMN is another candidate that is just cruising right along. It does appear to be taking alittle bit of a breather over the last month but still holding to the EMA for potential late entry

Take profits! I think others have already said this, but take them, and all of them if I were you. Earnings matter a lot more on IV than on actual numbers, but people like to focus on numbers. I wouldn't gamble earnings.

I would also set aside 25% in a new savings account for tax purposes. You can and should (if you keep doing well at this) pay taxes quarterly, to avoid a huge tax burden at the end of the year. Just my 2 cents of course and the obligatory "I'm not an accountant, this is not financial advice".

Big congrats! now just don't YOLO the winnings!

I did as well - same price $1.30.

For some of the veterans on here, I've been wondering if there is any advantage to closing out your call spreads, put spreads, "Mcinnis" fly specials using either the option "market" or "even" choices to close out the trades. I use E-Trade, so maybe those terms are unique to E-Trade, but the only difference to me seems that if I close out via "Market and/or Market / limit" it gives me the results on a gross basis, meaning like I fully bought and sold all of the options in the strategy, and if I choose "Even" it just gives me the net result (gain or loss) on the trade.

Thanks in advance for any thoughts...

I will use market orders ONLY on single options like puts and calls when I'm pulling a parachute. Like I need out asap!

Any special option like a spread or butterfly I will only use limit orders. The liquidity in these is low and don't fill easily, if you use a market order you're potentially going to get SERIOUSLY hosed on the transaction.

My initial answer may not have been appropriate to the question? I'm not familiar with those terms, but if it's talking about closing entire combinations in one transaction I do this all the time, but only with limit orders as mentioned above.

I've also piecemealed my way out of multi leg trades when I needed to as well. (Split a fly into spreads, closed a spread as singles, etc)

right there with you... not holding any baba or nio, but definitely will add 7/17 on any pullbacks. I do have a SPY 313P, would love to see a nice dip again tomorrow.
