Theoretical question. Suppose the US contains the virus and new cases begin to stagnate but around the world the virus continues to take off and surpasses 1M cases. Good for the market or bad?
Initial drop but not as severe because we'll be on our way to a vaccine or already have one.

I get that Amazon is good, but it's a lot of damned money for 1 share. I avoid stocks like this because it feels like you are gambling 100x the money vs your return if it hits.

Frio-

Stay away from XOM. They will announce a massive reduction in their dividend or their buyback, or both in the coming weeks. And that's the only reason to buy it right now.

Much better options out there.

I'm looking at a trend. Each friday back to Feb (feb 14, 21, 28, mar 6, 13) has a very strong rally beginning 1 hour prior to close with short covering, closing out positions before the weekend, etc.

I'm gonna hope the trend continues, because tomorrow 1 hour before close i'm buying next week SPY calls, in hopes of a 30 min flip.

Now that it is required... Waitr (WTRH) and Blue Apron (APRN)? If other state governors do the same wont these companies jump as they have been?!

Nothing new for the majors but shuts down Galveston, Padre and other places where spring break is still happening.

Also gives the State power of quarantine, but they're obviously very tepid about any use of that and asking people to act responsibly.

No. That applies to "social gatherings"

Fed is pouring up to $7T if fully subscribed Into reserves (AND LOANING WITH EQUITIES AS COLLATERAL - so you can buy stocks, bring them to the fed as collateral for more reserves, then go buy more, and cycle in more reserves to continue buying).

Combine this with the Treasury sending Fed dollars out into the hands of consumers, essentially suspending all debt (which will be serviced by the Fed and Treasury), bailing out everyone, AND buying equities.

I don't see how this will not result in a massive artificial inflation of stock prices in the coming months.

Questions on the mechanics of this - Is this starting now? Using equity as collateral, does that mean it wouldn't have to be sold or changed hands through the open market? How long would that theoretical cycle take to have a positive impact on the market (ask-receive-buy)? Nightly/few days/weeks to process and settle?

My friend said they closed their CrossFit place because they tried to implement the "social distancing" and it was a cluster ****. I'll just go for jogs on the Heights Trail.

For those that trade options, be wary of the impending volatility crunch. As panic subsides (whether today or tomorrow, or next week), be aware of your implied volatility exposure.

For reference, the VIX has dropped from the recent high of 85 to just over 71-72. For perspective, if volatility held constant, that would have the same effect as having lost 30% an option's time to expiration.

By no means am I saying volatility spikes are over. Just make sure you have some understanding of how exposed you are, in case, say, they announce a vaccine/cure next week. I would expect IV to drop substantially on that news, even though the market will likely make a decent move up.
