I think many buy-and-hold investors are going to become big fans of socialism very quickly.

It's not for EVERY adult.

I doubt I'll be seeing much of that cash stipend, but that's ok there are millions who need it to stay afloat the next month.

I read it'll be 2 payments only , one in early April the next in May, with income threshold requirements somewhere around $100k for a married couple

I want to thank my housing allowance, which included paying for a roof and ac unit this year, for dropping my income 35 grand. You're the real hero

Those numbers seem insane. Wouldn't it be cheaper just to match someone's salary if they're unemployed or can't work because it's closed?

I think the govt will end up (1) buying equities (2) paying the vast majority of individuals 1-2k/mo (3) suspending debt payments of all kinds and rent and paying those businesses itself (4) providing massive amount of working capital to businesses (5) paying for all healthcare related to covid and (6) bailing out all the majors.

The fall out after someone smarter than me can provide a guess, but it will definitely bounce the market hard.

I know plenty of people make $300k+ that live paycheck to paycheck. I also know millionaires with less than $100k in "income". Oh well, nothing better than handing thousands of dollars to people that have no idea how to handle their money. If they weren't smart enough to have an emergency fund, why would anyone think they'd be smart enough to use cash appropriately?

The best thing you can do in this situation is give cash to people who go out and spend it, that's what's needed to get the economy jumpstarted, people spending money, not saving it

If you're buying long term (1 yr or more), then I advise quit trying to buy now and "get in on the bottom".

There will be plenty of days to buy cheap after the bottom is in. The market hasn't even had 2 up days in a row since this drop started. And the few days it does go up say 1,000 the next day it drops 2,000.

It's your money so you're gonna do what you want. I just hate seeing y'all lose money on fundamental mistakes. I'm going to step off my soapbox now.

This is the worst take I've seen on texags maybe ever.

You think "being smart" is the reason most people don't have an emergency fund? The number of people I know barely scraping by and worrying about rent/mortgage versus the number of people who spend lavishly every month with zero savings has to be an infinite ratio. I don't know anyone in the second category, and tons in the first.

If true, the lethality of this disease will be nowhere near what the press is selling and combined with the howitzers that the fed has aimed at the markets, you don't want to be short. JMO.
