RAUSR is our only user to get the square on Espada 8-14.

We're down to just 2 options left for the winner.

Brewers beat the Dodgers, ED-209 ties Teddy Perkins at 8 and wins on the tie-breaker
Dodgers beat the Brewers, wessimo ties Teddy Perkins at 8 and TP wins on the tie-breaker, making him the second member of the TexAgs Astros Bingo Hall of Fame.

Other squares still open

Brewers win NLCS - RO519

Dodgers win NLCS - Charley Kerfeld, n_touch,

Rays win the ALCS - CFTXAG10, dixiechkn

Once we have a winner, I'll start sorting out the all-time Astro draft. Have 3 people (plus me) interested, would love to get to 8, 10, or 12.

Are you including the free space in those numbers?

Could catch, I screwed up wessimo's score. If the Dodgers win the NCLS, Wessimo wins outright.

I've decided I'm going to subscribe to the narrative that Crane and Bagwell totally forgot about firing Espada until the Mariners asked permission to interview him.

I need to check, because I thought my collaboration entry could get to 9.

I'll consult with my partner and ask if he wants to request an official recount.

Is it common for teams to announce retained coaches before the new manager is hired? Perhaps he has been consulted already…….

Feel like that is indicative of who it will be. Omar Lopez is my bet.

Maybe waiting for new GM to sign off on making Omar Manager? It can be the first hire that Bagwell gets to tell the new GM to make.

Omar Lopez conspicuously absent from that list, hmm.

Here is the list of returning coaches (currently), thank goodness we kept Bracamonte:

Boo on Josh Miller being retained.

I am hoping they did it so he doesn't have to wait until the end of the season to sign with Seattle. Don't give them any time to have buyers' remorse

We walked guys at a historic rate and have no idea how to hold runners on base. Sure, let's bring back the pitching coach.

Zero reason for Bagwell to take that job. He has the easiest job in the world right now. He can sit back and second guess everything somebody else does and get paid for it, with no responsibility for what actually happens.

"Hey MLB, hitters sucked this year"

MLB: "Why"

"It looks like they've spent their entire life trying to swing harder and uppercut the ball to create the best combo of loft and exit velo. So they whiff more and make weaker contact when they don't connect perfectly"

MLB: "Lets try limiting where outfielders can stand"

"Genuis!"

MLB: "I know"

"When that doesn't work next year, can we try removing an infielder? It's not fair that there's 4 of them and only 3 outfielders"

MLB: "Great idea. But I was thinking more of moving all of the fences up 30 feet"

"Yessssss"

Why don't they just double the size of the bases? That would have a positive impact on batting average and stole base %.

Plot twist: Hinch is the new manager, Dusty Baker new GM. His business hours are 4 a.m. to 11 a.m., then a nap, dinner, and bedtime.

The selective retention of coaches with a manager vacancy means two things, neither one likely good:

Bad) New unknown coach doesn't get to pick his own staff - bad in terms of being able to land a strong candidate

Worse) The new manager is already in place, just not announced, and has given assent to these assistant choices. While that COULD mean Omar is the new manager, I don't see why they would wait to announce if that is the case. The scarier and more likely scenario is that Ausmus is the new guy.

While probably not in my top 10, I don't think Omar would necessarily be a horrible choice. There are many, many worse choices.....

It doesn't matter who's the manager if we don't hire a GM worth a **** to fix the roster. GM hire matters more than anything.

I'm holding off on supporting this. I wrongly thought that Espada would be good. Frankly, I'm a little surprised that folks online are saying that Espada wasn't the problem. He may not have been THE problem, but he was most certainly A problem.

Chandler dropping nuggs that the org is intending for the new GM to be in place before the World Series is finished. No hints on candidates interviewed yet but he said they have spoken with some with teams still involved in the LCSes.

Hopefully will hear more in the next fortnight.

Curious which league you play in. I played here in Houston up until last year. Agree with everything you said.

I play up in Indianapolis now, before that I lived in Colorado Springs and played there. Zach Wheeler's brother actually plays on one of the teams we play regularly in our 35 and up league.

Nothing better in the world than squaring up a ball and running the bases to make you feel young.

Fair enough that you could hide in that not everyone could hit it at you, but for the 3 or 4 balls a game that would come at you it would be a serious adventure. IMO RF is the hardest outfield position to play because you get some wicked slices on the ball coming off the bat and you have to make some of the longest throws.

I do think that it'd be a fun experiment to see how many posters on this board could actually run down a towering fly ball to the gap.

Based on my playing days in Aggie intramural softball in the 1990s, the only position I was qualified to play was first base - stand there while someone throws the ball to you.

Well my media buddy has thrown a name out in the group chat that he says has been at least discussed upstairs, though perhaps no more than that, and it would be like the Red Sox hiring Bucky Dent or the Rangers hiring Jose Altuve.

I cannot claim any validity, although it does fit the theme of "genius move or total disaster"

Pujols? Does he have any managerial background?

Oh man...So many possibilities from this clip alone

Pujols, Ausmus, Lidge, Petite, Clemens all in that clip.

But honestly...Pujols would be a really intriguing candidate.

Each of the names Charley mentioned (Altuve and Dent) were the nemesis of the teams he mentioned (Rangers and Red Sox). The only one that fits that role in the clip relative to the Astros is Pujols.

I think Pujols is a strong, albeit unproven candidate who is certainly going to get a job with someone very soon.

I must say, I don't consider Pujols in that rival nemesis tier. I consider him a fantastic player who played for a team who was a friendly rival. I have zero bad blood towards him.

Pujols was scary to be play against, but all Astros fans would have taken him on our team in a heartbeat during his STL days. "Rival" players are often people that you would throw up in your mouth if they joined your team, even if they were good.

OK, seeing on Premium that Joni Taylor set the WBB team motto as "Do More" this year sets up an obvious layup.

Since "Chasing the Fight" didn't work out (who woulda thunk it?!), the Astros 2027 slogan shall be: "Do Better".

Not as elegant as "Don't Suck", but more family-friendly.
