I remember reading that Presley actually requested to be traded last season.

He's got roots here. I assume he wants to be somewhere where he's in competition for the 9th inning, a city he likes, and somewhere that wants to extend him. That shrinks the options significantly.

I want a hot blonde and a Lamborghini, but at my age and not wanting to spend my 401k on one, that kinda rules that out.

Looking at the going rate for leverage relievers, his contract isn't so horrible. I could see a few teams thinking he's worth his salary.

Clay Holmes got $12.33M AAV
Aroldis Chapman just got $10.75M AAV

Craig Kimbrel got $13M AAV last year
Josh Hader got $19M AAV last year

I really don't blame him. He's a veteran guy who asked for a no trade in his contract and the Astros granted it. He has a family now and wants to go to a place where they want to live and wants an extension so they can move and be settled for a bit.

I don't see it as selfish. The team is who threw in the clause in his contract and he has every right to be selective as much as it sucks right now.

He can afford to be picky. The fallback is being the 7th or 8th inning guy on a team he's comfortable with, in a city he likes, and competing for a title. This is the power of the no trade cause.

They are just buying low now so they can sell high at the trade deadline.

For sure. I completely understand why he wants to stay here and is being super picky. No ill will towards Ryan. I was voicing I personally believe the no-trade clause is holding up a trade for Ryan more than last year's performance, which makes him be difficult about the situation. Again, completely understand why. I'd honestly be doing the same as him.

While he declined this past season, I think some teams do want him, and I'm curious if he sees any bounce back. He is one guy I think a scenery change does help because that dude was pissed about his role, at least from the tea leaves I read, and being in a situation where he can be the man might actually clear his mind and improve his performance. On the other hand, father time may have claimed another one.

I was trying to avoid being passive aggressive when someone else (not you) was passive aggressively talking down like there was no other reason a trade wasn't being made for him other than him not being very good like the smarter people have been saying while not factoring in Ryan has a no-trade clause that could be making things difficult.

FWIW, my comment about him being the best in the league was meant to be a bit tongue in cheek as a poke at those who respond angrily any time anybody mentions that he has declined a bit from his peak. He undoubtedly had a great run here, but I agree with you that a change of scenery would probably do him some good. He didn't seem very happy here last year, so I would hope that he would put his happiness in the mix in addition to the other considerations when he decides how hard to push for the other things he wants when scuttling potential deals. We could for sure use his arm in the bullpen, but not if he is going to sit around and sulk every time he gets called on to pitch the eighth or in non-high leverage situations.

Pretty sure Pressly's discontentment goes back to Dusty's last season and only worsened in 2024. Hopefully something is worked out eventually that benefits all parties, but it may require waiting until the deadline for that to happen.

I was also trying to poke fun at you a little bit for not mentioning the no-trade clause Came out harder than I wanted.

We're actually on the same page and you say exactly what I think. I don't want him pitching for the Astros if he can't accept the way things as they currently are because I think we'll see a repeat of last season.

Glad we're on the same page.

I absolutely do not blame any player for using their no-trade clause. That is the equivalent of compensation - players gain leverage to ask for no-trade clauses by performance/demand. If you agree and give a player a no-trade clause, it is hypocritical to grumble if they exercise it.

I would be perfectly happy to have Pressly back again (other than the payroll issue) as you can never have too much bullpen depth.

However, what I am NOT okay with is if Pressly blocks trades but then turns around and grumbles about being unhappy here. A no-trade gives you the fair right to refuse to be traded. It does not give you the right to demand the trade of your choice.

I wasn't trying to put words in your mouth.

I am simply pointing out that (A) it was said that he was unhappy and preferred a move. OK.

(B) He has a no-trade clause and may be using it to block trades the team lines up. OK

The only thing not OK would be to hold A and B as true at the same time.

Part of my post was defending the rights of players who have no-trade clauses. I find that fans often resent them when they block trades, or act like they are being problem children, when it is absolutely their fair right to do so that they have earned. But in some sports, it seems like players with no-trade clauses try to hold teams captive by being disgruntled and wanting out, but also only willing to go to the team of their choice. That is what I am not ok with. No-trade clauses are legit for staying put, not for giving self GM powers.

I am not implying that this is what Pressly is doing as I don't know what discussions have taken place.

Posey is a little Crane-like in that he seems to be chasing big names, but I'll tune into some JV starts in San Fran. Not a bad spot to play out the string.

Good for JV. I thought he would end up in Atlanta but I know he's always had a desire to play there as well

SF is a great fly ball park for JV as well with his declining velocity. I expect him to be serviceable there. Will miss seeing him around Bellville. Good luck to him and Kate

I say JV goes something like 7-9, 3.95 ERA if he stays healthy. I'll be watching and rooting for him.

Say JV had never bailed to NYM for that half season and finished his career here.

Does he go into the HOF wearing a Detroit cap or Houston cap?

2 rings and a CY.

I think Detroit.

What if we had won in 2019?

3 rings and a CY? He is wearing a Star on his cap.
