"Several industry sources said they expect the biggest SEC and Big Ten schools, such as Alabama, Texas, Ohio State and Michigan, to demand a bigger proportion of their conferences' television earnings when new broadcast deals are negotiated in the early 2030s -- a move that would drive another wedge between the haves and have-nots."

Never saw this coming.....

Also as long as they view it through the viewership lens, I'm good with it.

Lol of course they did.

Knowing what chumps lead the SEC, they will probably agree to it also.

Can we go independent?

the SEC as you know is it on its death bed anyway. And I don't mean the "college football is dying" line people trot out

within 10 years, vanderbilt and mississippi state won't be in the same conference or "division" as the top half of the SEC

The SEC also had an agreement with A&M to not invite the sips to the SEC. We all see how that turned out. We all knew this would happen and it will happen. The SEC will go the way of the SWC and the Big XII because of the poison that is Texas.

What makes you guys think all the top revenue teams won't be interested? It's an arms race with revenue sharing and no "salary cap" in NIL. Money is fungible no matter where it comes from and even if the schools officially aren't supposed to have anything with NIL.

I am skeptical the escalation ever stops until the whole system crashes.

If Mike Slive were still alive and commissioner, do you think he lets Texas in?

I'm with you. Within 10 years, college football will likely follow the NFL model and reduce down to 32-40 teams in a single laeague with a 12-14 game schedule. Teams will only play teams within that new league and TV money will be split equally like the NFL. I think this driven by the broadcasters saying they will pay more to have 16-20 high quality games each week rather than games like A&M vs New Mexico State.

What it does to the other sports is anyone's guess. Will basketball follow the same model with the same schools in which case schools like Kansas, Gonzaga, UConn and Duke are screwed? I think Kentucky would survive in that case but more because of basketball than their football program.

When you invite cancer into your org, with a history of destroying conferences, you shouldn't be surprised when the cancer starts to do what it's always done.

Dance with the devil and this is what you get. SEC learning those lessons we, Missouri and by extension Colorado, Nebraska and a few other schools not crossing my mind have learned when dealing with those egomaniacs.

They will destroy the SEC. Just like they did the big12 and swc

The only problem is if college football isn't college football anymore but an NFL-lite, who is gonna watch it other than fans of the "schools" represented by them?

I don't know that the average college football fan would give a damn about it anymore since it wouldn't impact their team/school. Maybe they would watch out of boredom or maybe they wouldn't watch out of spite. And the average NFL fan probably wouldn't have any more interest in the college game than they do now or than they do in the XFL or USFL or any of the other minor league footballs that have been attempted in the past.

These are some uncertain times we are going through.

I guess my question would be, how do these things get decided?

Are we talking about keeping an intact SEC with new rules? If so, how do rules like this get made/changed? Do you need a majority of presidents? If so, I'm pretty sure ATM would be included in that

Or are we talking about an entirely new system? Like a new league? I could see the "biggest schools" having more leverage here. The dozen or so national brands could form something and invite (so to speak) the next 30 ish schools to be part of it but it might be a "take it or leave it" type situation.

I could see ATM having less leverage there. Yeah we're big and have a loyal and large fan base, but let's be real, the new league would go on without us. They could say we're a tier 2 school and get a lesser pay out than tier 1 schools

I don't know, that seems possible. Not the most likely hit possible.

I'm sure there are endless ways this could shake out.

I think the most likely is we keep the SEC and B1G intact though

Who do you think gets to decide which games get the best time slots?

This is one of the reasons we left the big12. They had to guarantee A&M money and tv time in 2011. and then tried to turn the rest of the conference against us for wanting our guaranteed money. Meanwhile tu and ou got plenty of time and money.
They only agreed to equal tv revenue after we left the big12 because they had lhn money coming in.

"Sources expect". So, none of these schools have actually said they want more $$ based on ratings. And please enlighten me how Texas caused the demise of the SWC.

I think the SEC knew of the undercurrent that eventually became the B1G making a power play to cherry pick from Pac12 and Big12.
Because of it, they had to act, and OU and t.u. made geographical sense (comparatively).
I think they thought they'd poach from ACC also, but ACC put up more of a fight than expected

This all had more to do with conference and CFB evolution, and very little to do with trying to stick it to A&M
