You want that guy to start at RF for a team that can win the division and has goals of winning a WS because he had a good spring training against pitchers that aren't even Nestor Cortez?

Is the majors where you want him working on things if he hits a slump? Because you have to decide how long you're going to let him slump at the ML level if you have him there before moving him down. Is that 2 weeks? 3? 4?

You have other options, and it feels like forcing something you don't need to force while taking the chance you don't mentally make things harder for him by not being able to work the failure at the appropriate level.

I'm assuming in your scenario Dezenzo is also on the team. The reports have been the decision has ultimately been between Dezenzo and Smith, so if that's the case, Dezenzo deserves it more than Smith in my opiniion.

Alex Bregman went 19-for-124 (0.153) in his first 30 games, and that's with 314 ABs between AA and AAA. You said if Smith isn't doing great, just send him back down. Again, my question is how long are you willing to ride around a 0.200 average run from Smith, who has just 32 ABs at the AA level, if the Astros start as they did last year in Mar/Apr/May (0.431 winning %)?

We were willing to ride with very terrible hitters in the outfield ALL last season. .200 would probably be an improvement.

Frankly, I'd rather bring Cam Smith up and give him at bats at the majors all season long, assuming he's not completely floundering and hurting the team substantially. Sometimes you need to be able to grind it out and make the adjustments and now is better than later.

That way, he'd potentially be more ready for the Post Season assuming we get to the playoffs, and be a contender for ROY.

Dezenzo has also earned it, bring both up and let them get playing time. Make Chas and Meyers earn their spots.
