Serious question: what would the Aggies' record have been the last two years with Jose Abreu as coach instead of Jimbo Fisher?

If you don't remember, it was:

  • 2022 5-7 overall, 2-6 conference
  • 2023 6-4 overall, 4-3 conference

I'd say at least 7-5 last year. No way Abreu loses at Miami like that.

Jimbo wasn't meeting expectations but he wasn't the worst coach in the league. Abreu was/is literally dog *****
You aren't incorrect here, but while Abreu was awful, his contract was not as penal as Jimbo's. Again, Abreu is off the books after next year. Jimbo is on the A&M payroll until 12/31/2031.

We are talking about guys being paid to do nothing. Abreu is getting paid next year. Jimbo is getting paid next year, then the year after, then the year after, then the year after, etc., etc.

The jumbo EXTENSION was the bad move. But the original contract was fine

If this is in regards to the initial signing and contract -- I disagree. Most here, self included, were ecstatic. He was best available and we spent big money at a position of need. I think the length of the contract was the only thing even remotely discussed as a potential negative.

If in regards to sticking with him far too long, when it was clear it wasn't working, then 100% full agree.

I wonder just how bad Abreu's back was messed up last year. Those kind of injuries can ruin a career, especially at his age. Could be why he fell off so bad.

I thought he meant production during contract. In which case Jimbo was at least successful or considered a good hire for 4 of the 6 years he was here. Abreu was pretty much a disappointment from day 1

I don't remember if I posted it, but I didn't like dumping the money into a position I don't think needs to be a premium one for championship teams.

I was team use the money on JV.

60 M was only half what it cost to sign JV.

I think you're right but that doesn't change the fact that it took stupid amounts of money that JV isn't playing up to.
