I expect Framber to throw more cutters tonight and fewer sinkers. His sinker only had an 8% whiff percentage guys last time out. The Rangers made contact on 11 of 12 swings on the pitch and 4 of their guys were on the pitch. When he started throwing his cutter more, things settled down.
Very much disagree. He throws the sinker to induce contact on the ground. It's not really meant to be a whiff pitch. The cutter can be nasty but if he doesn't throw it perfectly, it ends up in the 10th row of the Crawford boxes. The cutter is 21% of his HRs yet 13% of his pitch mix.
I brought this up before, but the cutter is such a mystery. .180 BA, .170 xBA, .323 xSLG, .246 xwOBA, highest whiff and put away rate of any of his pitches...and yet it's rated as a worse pitch by run value.
Conversely his sinker has the highest expected stats against across the board, but has the best run value. I guess it's all about the associated launch angle with each pitch?
