You could say the same thing for Andy Roddick. He was insanely good, but even at the height of his game he would lose to Federer.

I think Roddick only ended up with that one US Open title.

While I agree in the choice of the Big Unit… I don't understand this "use him out of the pen" talk… Nah, he's be on bump starting game 6 for me… no offense, Framber.

Nope, that goes to Framber and his 11.57 ERA in 7 total postseason innings.

edit: I just realized wangus said "season" and not post season...only 1.5 hours later

IMO it was a lot to ask JP to reprise his rookie year especially his postseason. Overall this season has been solid, continued excellence in the field, improvement in BB/K ratio however the power has disappeared as well any big clutch hits.

My biggest overall disappointments:
Hunter Brown - Probably expected too much of him for his first full season but expected his season to be more like what France gave us..
Jose Abreu - Has redeemed himself the last month of the regular season and this postseason, but most of this season he was 2022 Yuli without the glove. Still if the postseason production continues he was worth every penny of his contract.
Framber Valdez - Post ASB, too many Mr Hyde moments.
Rafael Montero - Much better the second half of the season, probably would not have mentioned him except for the contract given
Michael Brantley - Not that Uncle Mike hasn't been his usual self since he finally got on the field, just took him too long to recover from his injury/surgery. Not accusing him in anyway in of not being diligent in his rehab, just wish it did not take so long.
Not enough Yainer Diaz - Should have at the very least split half the innings behind the plate with Maldy.

I honestly wish we would not start Valdez today, he has got his arse lit up 3 out of 4 starts against the Rangers, they have 5-6 runs off him per his 3 out of 4 starts, why even start him? I would rather have a bull pen game with JP Framce and Hunter Brown than spot the Rangers 5 runs.. I guess we are about to find out which Framber shows up,.. to bad Garcia and McCullers are hurt or we would crash this party quick

I'd imagine the plan going into the game is to have Hunter and France lined up and ready to go pretty quickly. Obviously the ideal scenario would be Framber cruising for 6-7 innings. However, given his recent performances, he will likely have a pretty short leash.

I think y'all are nuts. If Maldy called it and Abreu trusted him to do it, then they're the dumbest players in baseball and we deserved to lose last night.

Agreed. I cannot imagine a single team in a pivotal game 5 of the ALCS would put two runners on with none out in the 8th in a two-run game. Much less one that's been in seven straight ALCSes. Thinking otherwise literally just demands suspension of disbelief to me.

I've seen JV say in multiple interviews that even he wasn't mad Garcia pimped it, he understood the moment. Why pick now and not Spring Training to make a point about it, assuming anyone else even cared?
After thinking long and hard and rewatching the 5 pitch walk to Carter where two of the "balls" were actually strikes I've come to the conclusion that we were trying to brush Garcia back but Abreu lost a bit of control so there was SOME intent.

However, I still cannot fathom purposefully hitting a guy to put a runner in scoring position in a 2 run game in an ALCS series tied 2-2 against a team WHO WAS THE FIRST EVER TO HAVE MORE BLOWN SAVES THAN SAVES.

So for those saying Abreu simply lost his grip...wrong. And for those saying he wanted to hit him to start some magical chain of events...wrong.

They wanted to brush him back and ended up hitting him instead.

Can we have them loosening up in the batting cages out of sight so it doesn't look like we have no confidence in Framber?

In spite of all the injuries (LMJ, Brantley, Garcia, Altuve, Alvarez), lineups with Julks and without Diaz, underperforming regular season Montero, J Abreu, Dusty wtf in game decisions, sub .500 home record, the Astros are playing for a trip to The World Series tonight. LFG!! GLF!!

I'll just give my Debbie Downer expectation and get it out of the way. I have no faith in this team at home, and Framber is a headcase that can explode at any moment. I don't see that as a good combination, but I will be ecstatic to be proven wrong. He's certainly pitched well in big games before. Hopefully that psychologist worked overtime this past week.

I think if we were coming into today down 3-2, I'd have zero faith in winning both home games.

But I think we win the series now having to only win 1. I hope it's tonight. But we need the game 3/4 offense to show up because I agree with you on Framber. I don't have faith he will go 6 innings less than 3 runs. Hope I'm wrong but this game will require a lot of offense

Abreu said as much in the post game. The plan was to push it up and in, and it got a little too much in. You never know fully what's in a player's mind, but to me if you're gonna hit a guy on purpose you throw at his butt.

Verlander said the same. He said the plan for Garcia was to pitch him up and in. The HR ball was one that JV missed on and it drifted down and out over the plate. Given Abreu's control issues the previous at bat, losing one that he was trying to throw inside is not a huge surprise.

Framber is gonna give us 6 innings of 2 run ball while we hang 6 on the Rangers.

Either way I'm gonna get drunk so I win no matter what.

FIFY if a 27th out is made in the B9 at best it is a tie game, at worst an Astros L.

Up and in is the place to pitch Garcia. Theyve done it all series. He missed and it sailed in. Nothing else.

I'm not gonna disagree with you. Framber is an emotional wreck. However, he can go into breast mode when needed.
Remember 2021. In the alds, he couldn't get out of the 4th I think. He pitched game 1 of the alcs and did poorly. What did he do in game 5? Proceeded to come out and throw 8 innings of 1 run ball. I'm hoping he can turn that on today.
