Reminds me a lot of the challenge system in tennis.
All I do is Nguyen said:
My biggest question is how much of the ball needs to hit the zone in order for it to count? Does a slight edge touching it count, or does half the ball need to hit? what is the threshold i guess is my concern

Technically if a stitch touches the zone it's a strike. It's one of the points detractors make.
I'm fine with that, it removes any arbitrariness. If any part of ball touches zone it is a strike. The best batters at commanding the zone will flourish.MosesHallRAB04 said:All I do is Nguyen said:

this is also a 3 dimensional challenge, most think of it as a 2D (cartesian) plane but the depth of the plate also needs to be consideredMosesHallRAB04 said:All I do is Nguyen said:

Do we get 3D glasses with red and blue lenses so we can see the zone in real time?Farmer1906 said:Bag said:this is also a 3 dimensional challenge, most think of it as a 2D (cartesian) plane but the depth of the plate also needs to be consideredMosesHallRAB04 said:All I do is Nguyen said:

I think the 3d zone should be round or rounded at the edges. That'll prevent balls in the dirt or chest high being strikes.

Did any of you STHs have your WS presale yesterday? And what did the inventory look like?
Edit to add: STH presale was supposed to be 9am this morning

Thats not a fair take at all, every major league pitcher can usually break down every pitch and every piece of minutia of an outing, why shouldnt he be allowed to as well?htxag09 said:
I found his postgame comments interesting. He absolutely wasn't wrong that it was luck and lot of soft hits that found holes. But it shows that it's in his head and he's thinking about it when on the mound. Got to learn to let that **** go and move on.

The challenge system is a good first step that still keeps the umpire in the game and keeps the umpire union onboard with the changes. Where it goes from there and how quickly it evolves is open for debate.Bregxit said:MaxPower said:
Not sure I like that system, specifically if it's only those 3 who can initiate the challenge. I can see one knucklehead teammate using all the challenges and pissing everyone off but also seems like it would take more time
The challenges at the SL games took less than 10 seconds. Batter tapped his helmet to challenge and the result immediately went on the video board. Then play resumed.

Plus it's not like they wouldn't still be ruling on plays at the plate, foul tips (they obviously need to work on it), and other duties. You would think they would be all for it UNLESS they think it's a slippery slope to removing them altogether.Cromagnum said:
I don't see why umps would ***** then, unless they have an axe to grind and want to influence the game. Would literally have to stand there and just do what you're told on your earpiece. Don't have to get in arguments with players or coaches and don't have to toss anyone
Consistent with the guidelines used during the regular season, Major League Baseball has determined that the Globe Life Field roof will be open for tonight’s ALCS Game 4. It will be the first time GLF roof has been open for a Rangers game since May 21 vs. Colorado.

Rangers ALCS home games 3, 4, and 5, if necessary are complete sellouts. That includes all standing room tickets.

That knucklehead, if done too many times, will find himself on the bench...problem solved.MaxPower said:
