It's not hard to see things snowballing either. Sherzer is probably capped around 70-75 pitches. He threw 68 in a low-stress, simulated game. We got to him last time, but even if he's throwing well, we're getting to that bullpen mid-game.

Then Game 4 is Dunning, the guy we put 9 earned runs the last time we faced him. He's got a 4.69 ERA in the second half. He's one of the few Rangers that got hit this postseason. No reason we can't send him to the showers early.

We've now seen A bullpen (Sborz, Chapman, & Leclerc) twice. In their 5.2 IP, the results have been good for Arlington. The underlying metrics show only 2 K with 3 walks & 7 hard-hit balls. It feels like just a matter of time before the dam bursts.

Let's see a quality start and scoring runs at the same time in game 3. Beyond that nothing else matters.

This thing is literally 10 feet from being a tied series or Astros up 2. Bregman's ball in game 1 and Peña in game 2. 5 feet on each and we tie both games. Add to that the the amount of hard hit balls we've had right at them and it's not hard to see this series turning very quickly. We just need to stop going for the HR and start working base hits.

Cristian Javier has a record of 5-1 with an ERA of 1.91 and 57 strikeouts in 15 appearances in the postseason in his career.

Jos Urquidy has a 4-2 record with an ERA of 3.64 and 42 strikeouts in 13 appearances in the postseason in his career.

That's how we're gonna do it, Ags!

Yep. The first two games went PERFECTLY for them from that perspective. But all it takes is a couple meh outings from Scherzer/Dunning and our pitching depth advantage should surface.

I always thought there was more pressure on them to steal a game (or two) in Houston because I we've got a better setup for games 3/4 in the pitching dept.

But yea, a 7 game series is a long time to hide a glaring deficiency. Rangers have been able to exhale through two games but like you said, it can snowball the other direction quick.

Are they not using Jon Gray in game 4? They put him on the roster, so I assumed he was going to start a game..

I think the series is gonna end up 1 of 2 ways...

IF we win Game 3, we will win 4 straight and win it in 6...

IF we lose Game 3, we'll get swept.

We need that winning feeling again, and doing it against Max could be what gets us going...

This. We are right there, and at the end of the day that's how it is in postseason baseball.
Game 1 I really felt like we were due for a big inning. We were making solid contact pretty consistently, but we just couldn't get anything to fall when we needed it to.
Game 2, as much as I hate to say it, the bases loaded with no outs inning is where we ultimately shot ourselves in the foot.

Maybe. He could be a piggyback option for 3 or 4, but he's coming off an injury with no rehab start and he hasn't thrown in a real game since 9/25 (3+ weeks). He hasn't been special either. 4.12 ERA for the year & 6.41 ERA in Sept.

Was anyone thinking pinch hitting Dubon for Tucker towards end of the game? Is that even a possibility? What about situation in game 3 where you just need a hit?

It's like we were literally 1 hit from Altuve and Tucker from a split or even a 2-0 lead.

No. You are pinch hitting for Tucker. Yes, he's in a slump, but that still isn't happening. Dubon should've been the PH for Maldy with bases loaded instead of Diaz. Dubon is a contact hitter and that's what we needed in that moment. I love Diaz, but that dude is free-swinging and doesn't give you near the chance of good contact as Dubon.

This all day long. Diaz will be fun to watch as an everyday catcher, but that was not his time.

I remember last year having head scratching moments of guys PH late in games and Dusty's reasoning was to give them experience. I don't recall that happening this year with Diaz yet he was thrown into it when there were other better options. Reason 2,086,634 people will be glad to see him go.

Even if we lose Game 3, I still don't see this team getting swept. There's too much talent, depth, and experience for that to happen. And if we somehow do get swept, then tip your cap to the Rangers, because that's a heck of a feat on their part if they can pull it off.

I'm still hopeful. Scherzer going in game 3 is a desperation move IMO. Get to him early, and he won't go even 2 IP. They're going to have him on a super short leash. And, this team has been great on the road and they play well in that Costco barn they'll be at on Wednesday. I think we win game 3 decisively, and hopefully squeak out a win on Thursday.

Feel like I need to send my old tee ball coach to tell them base hits win games. Wish we had more base hits to move people.

Last time we faced Sherzer:

3 IP, 6 Hits, 7 ER, 2 BB, 4 K

Time for a repeat.

I have a random theory.

I was at the game last night and they would show multiple feeds on the stadium TVs. On the stadium feed many of our players looked bad. I'm talking sweating profusely and completely flushed red faces. On the TV feeds the colors were adjusted quite a bit differently. It was obvious enough that people were talking about it.

I wonder if it isn't just Alverez that is sick, but a large portion of the team.

Said the same last night. We need some better situational hitting. Base hits with runners on instead of strikeouts trying for home runs or at least make contact and advance the runners. Seeing that Yordan either scored or drove in 18 of the 24 runs we have scored spells it out for you. We have had plenty of runners on base and have been miserably bad at advancing them.

Remember when it wasn't too long ago when we needed the slug? We were slapping the ball and not driving the ball for the XBHs. The SLUG% was just not there at all.

This team has a good handful of contact guys. They just aren't executing and falling just short.

Good news is that we're hitting the ball and hitting it hard. Hits just aren't falling. So it's not like we're just completely lost and overmatched.

Hopefully some of that road magic kicks in and we start spraying it everywhere.

Expected stats don't win you games, but we'd have hit the ball a little better than them while drawing the same number of walks and striking out less. But that is baseball for you.

xBA Game 1 / 2
Astros - .287 / .266
Rangers - .230 / .278

Hard Hit Game 1 / 2
Astros - 8 / 12
Rangers - 4 / 9

Walks Game 1 / 2
Astros - 2 / 3
Rangers - 2 / 3

Strike Outs Game 1 / 2
Astros - 7 / 9
Rangers - 8 / 12

So far this series can come down to 2 plays per game

Game 1: Bregman's almost HR turned double play, or Maldy striking out with bases loaded

Game 2: bases loaded no outs K by Altuve, or Framber's throwing error.

Reminds me of last year's ALCS except this time we are on the Yankees side of it. (Judge almost homerun, their botched double play that led to us taking the lead late in game 4)
