After today's game he's probably about a league average player with elite CF defense. He's second to Julio in OAA in way fewer attempts. He might end up a 2.5-3 WAR player being a part time OFer.

Astros might be able to use him in a trade for a reliever in the offseason.

Or keep him as the 4th OFer and defensive replacement.

the Mariners are 22-10 since July 1st

and they have been great against very bad teams

10-0 vs. the A's and Rockies (from series in April & May)

Did anyone else notice kalas called that strikeout before the swing and miss
Announcers have been a split second ahead of video all year, for me,, especially noticeable when tk yells 'got him' on a strikeout
The audio was inline with the 3rd base dugout camera. The centerfield camera was at least 1 second behind.

I didn't know much about Singleton so I just looked him up. He was a prospect the Astros got for trading Hunter Pence in 2011. Probably everyone here knows that, but wow.

But it's not that simple. Yordan is probably the 4th best defensive OF. But we don't just play defensive specialists at every position.

In the playoffs, I'd DH Yordan with Chas in LF and Meyers in CF since they'd take Yordan out for a defensive replacement and I wouldn't want to lose Yordan batting in case the other team came back to tie or take the lead.

I get it on a day like today when Tucker isn't playing OF. Which is why I said "most of the time." Everyone likes to point out the splits when Yordan plays in the field, but it's not like he becomes a less dangerous hitter when he plays DH. So why wouldn't you want the 3 best defenders in the OF most of the time?

Because the splits are that much different. He's a really good hitter as DH. He's as bonafide MVP when playing LF.

More so that it isn't a solely defensive situation. He hits like 30-40 points higher when playing LF. I want the best version of him whenever possible.

I do agree defense matters more in the playoffs so decisions need to be made, but regular season he needs to be in left more than DH

I'm good with that too. Just was thinking how the bullpen will need to be bolstered next year. But yeah, always a little easier to find a bullpen arm than 4th OFer.

I do like Jake as that option.

Then Diaz sits. More important for Diaz to DH when not catching.

If he were to carry his 2023 LF production only for his entire career, he'd be the best player that ever lived.

If he carried just his 2023 DH production for his entire career. He'd still be 1st ballot Hall of Fame. His OPS (.960) ranks 6th in all of baseball this year, and his wRC+ (162) ranks 4th. Obviously, it's my opinion and I know many disagree, but that's elite and good enough, while putting a better defender on the field.

Ideally, the playoff lineup would look something like this.

Altuve (2B)
Bregman (3B)
Alvarez (LF)
Tucker (RF)
Diaz (C)
McCormick (CF)
Abreu (1B)
Singleton (DH)
Pena (SS)

This of course assumes Jon Singleton rakes when he is called up and adds more power to our lineup. If Singleton doesn't rake, just replace him with Meyers and swap out Alvarez to DH while shuffling McCormick to LF.

Obviously, Maldy is going to play so this lineup of death is for some reason not realistic with Dusty...so that's always going to be a lineup liability.

Dude isn't even on the team let's slow our roll on making him a playoff starter
