checking in north of the border...
George is glad to see the calendar flip from July to August.
he had one of the worst months of his career.
dropping his season OPS down to .696 with an OPS+ of 95
like a lot of players, Springer has lost his power
just 28 x-base hits in 413 at-bats
I'd still take him back in a heartbeat.
He's going to be a sub 2 WAR player unless he goes on a hot streak. He's making ~25 M. Toronto is on the hook for another 3 seasons.
This is the thing to think about with Tucker.
Springer is 33
Tucker will be 29 in 2026. Astros lose control after 2025 and he will be a free agent, at present.
For outfielders I don't think you want to be on the hook for them on star level contracts past age 33/34.
Now sure Springer and Tucker are different players.
One understands Crane's reticence to go beyond 5 year deals.
Would seem the path here would be some kind of extension that converts Tucker's remaining arb years and he gets paid today, yet the team isn't looking at a financial commitment to an outfielder until age 35.
I mean if you can envision an outfielder being a DH in the later years of his contract then it makes sense like Yordan's contract.
