How long do you want to ignore this user?
So, with the trade for JV, the SPs look like this:

Framber
Verlander
Javier
Brown
France
Urquidy

I don't anticipate a 6-man rotation, so my guess is Urquidy goes to the pen and maybe Urquidy spot starts for Javier, Brown, and France once or twice each thru the send of the season. Especially Brown and France who have not thrown this many innings at the MLB level before.

If Javier gets back to form and Brown finishes strong, there will be some tough decisions going into October.

Or somebody could punch their locker and make it easier

I'm not sure I buy Dubin coming up. Saturday we add JV and Sunday Urquidy. Blanco as a starter doesn't need replacing. And someone else still has to go down.
I thought we already made our moves to add those 2. Joe Perez and Gage?

Well, maybe only a move for JV, looks like Urquidy isn't activated yet?

I think i much rather 2 of those to be in the pen over some of the current options. Garcia in the pen for Seattle ALDS was clutch.

It would only be fitting that they trade for JV and Baker sits him for a couple extra days

The 6 man rotation was a primary reason our pitching was so good last year. Javier needs it to be effective, Brown needs it to keep his innings down, JV needs it for his age, Urquidy needs it because his short arm motion is an IL stint waiting to happen. Valdez and France are the only 2 guys I see that can hold up to a 5 man rotation.

Guessing tomorrow's lineup:

Altuve
Pena
Tucker
Bregman
Yordan LF
Abreu
Diaz DH
Chas
Maldy

Unless someone gets a day off

Bregman should not be batting cleanup. Probably better batting fifth behind Yordan.

Since we know the old man won't sit Maldy, I'd go with

Altuve
Bregman
Yordan LF
Tucker
Chas
Diaz DH
Abreu
Pena
Maldy

The perfect lineup if u have to play Maldy.

I'm fully prepared for Yordan to not play LF at all or it'll be limited on this road trip

Outfield is a lot bigger in New York and then Baltimore it's insanely huge

Understand what you're doing. I'm kinda doing the same by keeping Maldy in there. If no Maldy then

Altuve
Bregman
Yordan DH
Tuck
Chas
Diaz C
Abreu
Pena
Meyers

I wish we had a Jomboy who could ask Donkey:
  • Why is your hottest hitter batting 7th - do you want him to get less at bats than the majority of your other players
  • Why is your overall best hitter batting 5th and not 3rd or 4th like you would do with any hitter of that caliber
  • Related question - why do you insist on splitting your left-handed hitters when they actually hit left-handed pitching better than right-handed - wouldn't you want to bait the opposing manager into bringing in that situational lefty?

Just very odd behavior. Don't appreciate getting the possibility of getting banned for just talking ball. I've seen bans given for less. Thought my insight would be appreciated but that's not the case lol
Ranger fans are thin skinned goobers I mean hate to say it but its what I have seen in real life and a good 50lbs overweight.
It's dumb when they do it, and it is equally dumb when we do it. We are practically the exact same people. Caucasian males, predominantly. Texans, check. Aggies, check. Baseball fans, check. Complain about our team, usually. Complain about our rivals, always. Have two championships… well I said we were mostly the same, not exactly the same.

DFW is in Oklahoma so they ain't Texans.
Hey now... I have the unfortunate pleasure of living up here in the burbs too so hush it!

The answers would be something like:
- well hey man...
- they talked about where they wanted to hit and hugged it out, so i can't go against that
- i don't need any help managing, thank you. now, where's my jello?

looking in the rearview mirror...

big 4-game series in Anaheim this weekend between the Mariners (56-52) and Angels (56-53)

if one of these teams is serious about making a move toward the wildcard...it needs to get separation from the other

Ohtani pitches tonight. Castillo tomorrow.

Angels lead the series 4-2

It's Donkey. If ever proves to be the least bit flexible with making his lineup make sense or playing Diaz more at catcher I'll start calling him Dusty.

We need Urquidy's innings and any extra rest would seem logical, so I hope he is last up getting worked back into the rotation.

checking in north of the border...

George is glad to see the calendar flip from July to August.

he had one of the worst months of his career.

dropping his season OPS down to .696 with an OPS+ of 95

like a lot of players, Springer has lost his power

just 28 x-base hits in 413 at-bats

You are acting as if world class veteran players want to play here, instead of refuse to because of the terrible manager that can't manage a roster.

Nope, but the 6 man rotation works when there are no off days. We're in the middle of a 10 game stretch. We have a 13 game stretch to end Aug. I think we'll use the 6 man rotation then but ditch it after that. Someone is likely heading to the bullpen.

This was the thought process and why they weren't more aggressive in going after a reliever. They inquired on Hader and had offers on the table for Barlow and Raley.. I believe they had offers for a couple more too. Pierce Johnson, Brent Suter, Carlos Hernandez, Aaron Bummer are all names they at least asked about a couple times.

At the end of the day, they decided that the assets these teams wanted were just too high of an asking price and they could solve some of the bullpen issues by moving a starter into a long relief role.

I would have really liked to get Hader as another option to close games. Love Pressly but man he can make it stressful at times. But the Padres seem to think they have a shot at the WC so they weren't going to sell him cheap. So in the end I'm glad we didn't overpay for him.

He's going to be a sub 2 WAR player unless he goes on a hot streak. He's making ~25 M. Toronto is on the hook for another 3 seasons.
