28 is for Sept call-ups. The Postseason is 26. Since the regular season moved to 26 the rule is a 13/13 split. I don't recall if they pushed that rule on the postseason. If not, we could have 14 pitchers, but we'd need only to keep 12 position players.

Yeah I was wrong thinking expansion rosters carrying into post season. You'd think I'd know that better with the amount of post season baseball this team plays.

Think you have to see how Brown vs France finish up the season for the 4th starter. They are both young so the experience advantage Brown has is minimal. I would definitely say your first three (Verlandar, Valdez, Javier) in any series if you can line them up as long as Javier can right the ship the rest of the season. Agree on the high leverage as well those have been clearly the most reliable relievers. Will be interesting to see what they get out of Graveman to see if he can get up to that level if he can get his walk rate down.

This is always interesting to me. To see how teams change which pitches pitchers throw more or less frequently.

Yeah, the Astros had serious interest in Lynn as well and were confident they could tinker with some things and get him right.

Yordan was on a decent slump before he finally went on the IL. Wonder if he was trying to play through it for a bit

It's kind of like when you have a new born. You're never really asleep, anyway, so you just stay grumpy.

And still batting 7th...would be batting 5th AT MINIMUM with any other team in the league save for the Braves and perhaps the Rangers (see lurking rangerettes, I can give y'all credit).

I know I've been negative a lot, so I'll add this positive note: I can't wait to see Verlander's presence and what it does for Hunter and to a lesser extent, Framber. I know he's not a "teacher" but man can that dude lead by example.

I bet you anything we lead the league in wins where blue gives the opposing team any percentage of runs. Seems we only get a favorable rating in absolute blowouts where the calls don't matter.

We're actually 9th from the bottom. We get favorable games 46.2% of the time. "Shockingly" the Yankees get favorable games 63.5% of the time.

Overall we are 6th from the bottom with -5.98 runs.

Does it actually correlate wins/losses to runs? I'm saying I bet we have the most wins where the ump was screwing us. In other words, if the five teams below us all have losing records it's very likely that a lot of games the ump called against them ended up in a loss anyway.

What I'm saying is we win DESPITE blue's best effort to f*** us.

Yordan's knees are why he's not at 1B
But they don't keep him out of LF
I have you ever seen a LFer have to stretch to dig a bad throw?
Wouldn't that put more strain on the hamstrings and groin than the knees?

Looks like all of it - hamstrings, groin, knees.
Well, for one thing, you stride into the throw with your glove hand foot....

Is that a middle infielder covering first or something? Because that dude ain't wearing a first baseman's mitt.

Probably a second baseman covering first base on a bunt coverage drill. As far as which foot to use on the bag, even RH players field balls close to the first baseline with their left foot on the bag. Gives the player fielding the ball a better target and less likely that the throw interferes with the runner
Yeah, I know all about that. My point was that the picture lacks context and there any number of reasons why the guy fielding that throw is wrong-footing the bag.

no one is going to feel sorry for the Yankees...

but it's hard to describe how bad Judge hurt the franchise by having a monster contract year

NYY is committed to paying him $40 MM per season...for 100 or 110 games per season

thru 2031...and he's not getting younger
Counterpoint - 100-110 games of Judge at 40 million and 4-5 WAR per season are better than a full season of Abreu and Montero at 40 million and minus - 2-3 WAR cumulatively, and the luxury tax is a salary cap for us, unlike the Yankees.

But at least that's only for the next couple of years after this one.

checking in north of the border...

George is glad to see the calendar flip from July to August.

he had one of the worst months of his career.

dropping his season OPS down to .696 with an OPS+ of 95

like a lot of players, Springer has lost his power

just 28 x-base hits in 413 at-bats
I'd still take him back in a heartbeat.

He's going to be a sub 2 WAR player unless he goes on a hot streak. He's making ~25 M. Toronto is on the hook for another 3 seasons.

This is the thing to think about with Tucker.

Springer is 33

Tucker will be 29 in 2026. Astros lose control after 2025 and he will be a free agent, at present.

For outfielders I don't think you want to be on the hook for them on star level contracts past age 33/34.

Now sure Springer and Tucker are different players.

One understands Crane's reticence to go beyond 5 year deals.

Would seem the path here would be some kind of extension that converts Tucker's remaining arb years and he gets paid today, yet the team isn't looking at a financial commitment to an outfielder until age 35.

I mean if you can envision an outfielder being a DH in the later years of his contract then it makes sense like Yordan's contract.

I didn't get a picture with him but met Framber for like 1/2 a second during Fan Fest with my boys and like the picture shows, dude is jacked. He's built like a middle linebacker at about 6'0" 240- he's a Dominican Mike Singletary.
