I'm good with that. Avoid TB as long as you can.
I'm very surprised some MLB, MiLB even independent team has not tried this here in the States. I guess no team wants to risk the possible negative reaction to it.Quote:

Eh...TB has been a .500 team since their ridiculous 27-3 (or whatever it was) start.
We get beerman yelling at us.jkag89 said:I'm very surprised some MLB, MiLB even independent team has not tried this here in the States. I guess no team wants to risk the possible negative reaction to it.Quote:

The casual fan probably doesn't know who these guys are but they're good arms who will help the bullpen tremendously and have multiple years of team control.
Great point!texasaggie2015 said:
They want a guy who can pitch high leverage innings when guys like Maton, Neris and Abreu need a night off. Those guys are exhausted. I suppose you could throw one of those guys in the pen, but do you really trust them to pitch big innings in that role?
Also- Stanek, Neris and Maton are all free agents after this season.. which is why they want a guy with years of control on team friendly contracts.

Y'all help me understand this...
If a player is in "pre-arbitration" that means complete team control, right? So if there are 3 years of pre-arb on a contract the player is locked in for 3 years? Plus the actual arbitration years?

and another thing about the American League...
so many folks like to trot out the phrase: "the playoffs are random" or "anything can happen" and so forth
but not in the AL since 2015. The underdogs / wildcards or 88-win teams don't make it to the world series
That's exactly right. The NL had three 100 win teams last season and none made it to the WS.Farmer1906 said:W said:

But they have fairly regularly in the NL. I guess the difference is that we stood in the way lately.
On his weekly appearance on @SportsTalk790, Astros general manager Dana Brown said his number one priority at the trade deadline is now a starting pitcher.

Makes sense. Funny how fast it shifted from bat being #1 priority to starter being #1 priority. We've had like 3-4 seasons within our season already.texasaggie2015 said:On his weekly appearance on @SportsTalk790, Astros general manager Dana Brown said his number one priority at the trade deadline is now a starting pitcher.

I think SP has always really been #1, but with a smaller gap to #2, which is a BP arm. With the recent development of CJ having multiple bad games in a row, it's been bumped up to clearly #1.Deluxe said:Makes sense.
