Oh I am not challenging the thought that the front office is not counting on anything from Brantley at all. As I said he may not ever come back, but I personally do not think it will have anything to do with the amount of time it has been since he has seen big league pitching. It will be entirely due to his ability to recover from the injury adequately to return to his former form.
Brantley is the consummate pro, it's his mental approach to hitting and that is not going to change. He is very disciplined, he stays in great shape. So, IMHO, Brantley's return is entirely related to the injury and zero to do with working out the rust.
If it was someone other than MB, I would maybe agree with you on the time off, rust aspect, but not Brantley. He's the exception in that regard. Time will catch up but not yet. It's all about whether the injury changes his swing or slows it or if keeps flaring up. And that is the issue that cannot be counted on.
His value in the club house, IMHO, is tremendous.
