So who do we sell?
Probably not gonna happen, but lets humor the discussion...
Here's a list of upcoming free agents sorted by their free agent year:
2024:
Brantley (hurt, not getting traded)
Stanek (probably wouldn't return much)
Maldy (maybe someone wants him as a backup catcher, but doubtful, you wouldn't get anything decent in return)
Neris (has an option for 2024, unclear if it'll be picked up, maybe tradable?)
2025:
Altuve (no way he's getting traded)
Bregman (the high salary is going to cut into the prospect haul you'll get)
Maton (maybe some value here, would be a sell high opportunity given his metrics this year)
2026:
Jose Abreu (LOL)
Montero (ROFLMAO)
Presley (money in his deal is probably a hinderance to any significant prospect gain)
Framber (hell no)
Tuck (could probably get really good prospects for him)
Urquidy (probably not gonna happen, they need the rotation depth)
I don't think they should be burning prospect captial with this team / manager to go out and get someone. If they did decide to sell some pieces, they would want to do it in a way that didn't hurt next year and upcoming seasons. I know trading Tucker is a popular discussion point, and we have a glut of outfield prospects coming up and outfielders on the team already, but I just can't see Crane letting that happen. If they traded Bregman (which I don't think will happen due to Crane's ego and the poor return given his salary), Will Wagner is probably the 3rd baseman of the future, and you would have to have someone who could play there for probably the next year until he's ready (mid-2024). He's losing time right now being out with the hamate surgery.
