You can't even make this **** up anymore.

I hope Dana doesn't make any major acquisitions before the deadline unless Dusty is canned. He will absolutely waste/mismanage it

Luckily we have a BAD Mets team who is also really cold coming in. Need to hope we get bad Scherzer and JV

I said it last night and i mean it. It's time.

It's time to make a choice Jim Crane. You can stick by the nice guy who doesn't know how to play and manage modern baseball and watch this team fade away. Or you can make the hard choice and try to salvage things. There are no guarantees you will salvage them but I guarantee how this ends if you don't.

Reds scored 3 runs in the 10th on 1 hit. Walks, errors, steals, and one hit.

I'm sure the Mets are thinking the same thing, haha.

You know what's about to happen right? People go to jail for what that Merle and JV are about to do to us.

If there was a Department of PreCrime they would be dropping through the roof at MMP right before Max throws his first pitch.

Baker up next. Can't wait to hear the brilliant thoughts that leak out of his empty skull.

The mystique is off Crane as a shrewd owner right now. Luhnow built something and Click kept it going. Then he forced Click out and ran an all-time bad offseason. We don't know for sure but it seems because of ego and arrogance.

It will take a series of consequential and good choices to right the ship but they're not going to happen midseason.

There are lots of things we know now - there is plenty of evidence - it's not just "fan stuff."

The question is: what are we going to do with that knowledge?

So far we have been living the definition of insanity.

The all-time bad off-season is hindsight bull***** The Abreu signing was universally praised. Montero was questionable and looks bad in hindsight but he had a great season last year and I think can still turn it around. We probably were way too sanguine on LMJ ever getting healthy and got really unlucky that both Garcia and Urquidy went down.

That said, the manager situation is absolutely unacceptable and Dusty needs to be put on a leave of absence. Dana might be the only person in MLB who could get away with firing him (for obvious reasons).

I think it was universally questioned when the World Series winning GM was forced out and a new one wasn't hired for months and Brad Ausmus was almost hired and Jeff Bagwell was making personnel decisions. That's the part I was talking about.

Probably not gonna happen, but lets humor the discussion...

Here's a list of upcoming free agents sorted by their free agent year:

2024:
Brantley (hurt, not getting traded)
Stanek (probably wouldn't return much)
Maldy (maybe someone wants him as a backup catcher, but doubtful, you wouldn't get anything decent in return)
Neris (has an option for 2024, unclear if it'll be picked up, maybe tradable?)

2025:
Altuve (no way he's getting traded)
Bregman (the high salary is going to cut into the prospect haul you'll get)
Maton (maybe some value here, would be a sell high opportunity given his metrics this year)

2026:
Jose Abreu (LOL)
Montero (ROFLMAO)
Presley (money in his deal is probably a hinderance to any significant prospect gain)
Framber (hell no)
Tuck (could probably get really good prospects for him)
Urquidy (probably not gonna happen, they need the rotation depth)

I don't think they should be burning prospect captial with this team / manager to go out and get someone. If they did decide to sell some pieces, they would want to do it in a way that didn't hurt next year and upcoming seasons. I know trading Tucker is a popular discussion point, and we have a glut of outfield prospects coming up and outfielders on the team already, but I just can't see Crane letting that happen. If they traded Bregman (which I don't think will happen due to Crane's ego and the poor return given his salary), Will Wagner is probably the 3rd baseman of the future, and you would have to have someone who could play there for probably the next year until he's ready (mid-2024). He's losing time right now being out with the hamate surgery.

I'd still ship either Meyers or McCormick like we've heard they plan to do, but for prospects, not deadline help. Agree with Maton maybe being at peak value.

I think we're handcuffed on roster moves until Urquidy and Brantley come back

The only 2 moves I think can have an immediate impact are Diaz being an everyday starter one way or another and Montero going on IL with "arm fatigue"

Other than that we're treading water. Any additions will be wasted by Dusty and any sells will be at the lowest

I don't think getting just one impact bat at the deadline will make waves. Getting Yordan back at 100% and an impact bat would really help. I'm done hoping for a Brantley return at this point. If he comes back, great… if he doesn't, then it is what it is.

We need a decent starting pitcher. We can't roll out Blanco, Bielak, and Dubin for 4-5 innings a start two days in a row.

A rotation of this would be fine.
1. Framber
2. Javier
3. (Insert acquisition here, maybe Giolito?)
4. Brown
5. France (until Urquidy) comes back

In 2004, the Astros fired Jimy Williams at the all-star break when the team was 44-44. They brought in Phil Garner and came within 1 game of the world series.

Remember, being the AL manager in the world series last year means Dusty is the AL manager for the all-star game. I cannot see Crane canning him before then. That would be very awkward to send the entire coaching staff (potentially with Espada as the current manager) and the ex-manager to the all-star game.

I think Dusty should go ASAP, but I think Crane is too buddy-buddy with him to do it.

Dusty won't be fired this year regardless. Much as we would hope so.

I think Crane will ride the ship down and then maybe he'll be asked to retire. But not until.

Impact bat won't do much as it'll move Diaz to the bench unless Dusty decides to make him the full time catcher.

I keep wondering what a package for Robert and Giolito would really take for Chicago? I wouldn't bat an eye at including Gilbert, Meyers, Korey Lee, and others in such a deal.

Not that Dusty would EVER use the platoon correctly, but you could put Chas in LF and semi-platoon him with Brantley if he returns. That would buy you two greatly upgraded spots in the order.

This team is bad right now. We arent firing dusty. Only hope is that dusty plays the best hitters and they actually start hitting. Maybe we make a trade for a bat as that is the only way to get better. There is 0 help in the minors right now
Boiling Denim
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Yeah Dusty is getting his farewell tour. 0% chance he gets fired

Unless we reel off 20+ losses between now and end of July then at that point what would it matter?

Only change I can see is Cintron if we finally get our potential playoff roster in place(Yordan, Brantley back) and the hitting struggles continue

My wish list

- Lucas Giolito
- Joc Pederson
- proven reliever who can handle the 7th or 8th inning

Been meaning to ask this on here.

Remember a short time ago, when Pressley bare-handed - or tried to anyway - that liner back to the mound?

Does that coincide when his pitching trailed off?

there is truth here.

the Astros may not have the trade capital to win the bidding wars for the players they want

so the best approach is to hold steady and not mortgage the future
