Playing in, you have to kind of throw backward to 2nd. Priority #1 is stop the runner from scoring. Can't risk losing on the batter beating the relay to 1st. Especially with Jake's speed.

No. if they called him out it would have been a misapplication of the rule. You're allowed to take a direct line to first base. From the RH batters box that leaves you inside the line until the end. Look at his last stride with his left foot, it was basically on the foul line. You just can't veer or not run towards the base. Would've been safe anyway because his foot was on the bag.

Exactly, all his mo was going home he wheels around and tries to fire it to second, and he would have to FIRE it because it's double play or game over you're just asking for a throw to the outfield or a throw that pulls the infielder the wrong way off second base and you have no chance at the turn.

The line itself is considered part of the running lane. You have to take 2 consecutive steps inside the line to be considered out of the lane.

I think Jake was inside at first but at the time the ball hit him was back at least on the line.
