I think that throw to 1st hit Jake in the back of the head.
He should be grateful for the headache.

Great game by Abreu. Really stepping up lately
Playing in, you have to kind of throw backward to 2nd. Priority #1 is stop the runner from scoring. Can't risk losing on the batter beating the relay to 1st. Especially with Jake's speed.Eso si, Que es said:
Seems like a normal 6,4,3 would have got them out of that, thanks Nats
Shohei Ohtani hit his 21st homer of the season. Went opposite field. The Angels are down 6-3 in the ninth.

every time I see an Angels highlight it's like "Mike Trout hit three homes runs and raised his average to .528 while Shohei Ohtani did something that hasn't been done since 'Tungsten Arm' O'Doyle of the 1921 Akron Groomsmen, as the Tigers defeated the Angels 8-3"

If you can see them, they're real enough.amercer said:Mathguy64 said:

No. if they called him out it would have been a misapplication of the rule. You're allowed to take a direct line to first base. From the RH batters box that leaves you inside the line until the end. Look at his last stride with his left foot, it was basically on the foul line. You just can't veer or not run towards the base. Would've been safe anyway because his foot was on the bag.McInnis said:mwm said:

It did, but hit 1B glove first. I think they could have called Jake out, he was inside the line but we'll take it.
Exactly, all his mo was going home he wheels around and tries to fire it to second, and he would have to FIRE it because it's double play or game over you're just asking for a throw to the outfield or a throw that pulls the infielder the wrong way off second base and you have no chance at the turn.redline248 said:Playing in, you have to kind of throw backward to 2nd. The line itself is considered part of the running lane. You have to take 2 consecutive steps inside the line to be considered out of the line.
I think Jake was inside at first but at the time the ball hit him was back at least on the line.

I hope this is a case of a manager's covering for his player, because if not... oh boy. https://t.co/BoRavoAHtw
