A lot of them have.

And it was a general comment about "celebrating."

They're in first place pretty much without him being much of a factor so far this season.

I dont see it impacted them that much given they are winning based on their lineup

6 starts is not nothing when you're talking about record in early June. Plus their starters are statically top 5ish (#4 WAR, #2 ERA, #4 FIP, #9 in SIERA). It's not just the lineup winning them games.

Their rotation cannot keep up what they've been doing.

Difference Between ERA & xERA
Dunning: -2.01
Gray: -1.89
Perez: -0.96
Eovaldi: -0.55
Heaney: -0.19
deGrom: 0.84 (the only one that could see favorable "regression")

If you set the min at 100PA their starters ranked 4th, 6th, 31st, 59th, & 82nd in (ERA minus xERA). That screams unsustainable.

FYI Bielak is 2nd at -2.27.

Off topic, but Astros related -- cool insight from Pujols on his historic HR against Lidge.

The moment is less painful because we won the NLCS.

the Rangers were warned.

the Rangers did not listen.

he's making $30 MM this year...and set for $40 MM next year...

no telling when he'll be ready to pitch in 2024
2023 (age 35) - 30 M
2024 (36) - 40 M
2025 (37) - 40 M
2026 (38) - 38 M
2027 (39) - 37 M
2029 (40) - 20 M (could be 30 or 37 M if he meets certain qualifications)

What the hell were they thinking?
That they were willing to way overspend to get him. I'd love to see the second place offer sheet. The REAL offer sheet, not what deGrom's agent told the Rangers other teams were willing to spend.

Always felt bad for Lidge. Dude was so good for us for a while but that one pitch defined his whole tenure.

I have no issue at all with Julks aside from thinking he has a low ceiling, and in fact as a hometown dude I want him to thrive with the Stros. But. I am confused what led Dusty to decide he is an actual every day player while Chas just sits there.

Because Julks is black I'll say it if nobody else will

Or.... or.... or.... they're giving him reps to maximize his value and see if he has any sort of value before the deadline.

Not everything is about race. Come on guys.

Quote:

When he leads the Houston Astros in Game 1 of the World Series against the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday night, the AL and NL champions are expected to play without any U.S.-born Black players for the first time since 1950, shortly after Jackie Robinson broke the Major League Baseball color barrier.

It's a fact that deeply disturbs the 73-year-old Baker, one of two Black MLB managers, who has spent his entire life either playing or coaching baseball.

"What hurts is that I don't know how much hope that it gives some of the young African-American kids," Baker told The Associated Press on Thursday. "Because when I was their age, I had a bunch of guys, [Willie] Mays, [Hank] Aaron, Frank Robinson, Tommy Davis -- my hero -- Maury Wills, all these guys. We need to do something before we lose them."

My cousin is pumped. I told this story before but he retired two years ago and has always loved baseball. Although he grew up in Detroit and has always loved the Tigers he moved to Houston about 20 years ago and has fully become a huge Astros fan. It certainly didn't hurt when we acquired Justin.

He decided to become an usher last year on a lark and what a season to pick as your "rookie" year. He has a nice area too, lower level right behind home plate shaded towards first base. He said the hardest part is keeping folks who don't belong in their section out but one time a "very attractive" woman carrying a baby asked very nicely if she could go through because she forgot her ticket and he decided to let her. A veteran usher witnessed it and came up to him and he thought he was in trouble until she told him "that's Lance McCuller's wife."

He also said for both of Yordan's 3 run blasts he mentioned to a fan both times "can you believe how loud this place would get if he connected on one?" Obviously the last one was the loudest he's ever heard Minute Maid.

He was most nervous for the ALCS because he knew if they didn't win that one he wouldn't get a ring since they only give them out for WS and LCS titles. He said the veteran lady I mentioned earlier could look like Tom Brady if she wanted with all the bling she's acquired since '17.

I know cool story bro...

My cousin just got his ring this morning and as luck would have it he's flying to New York today for his wife's Cornell reunion and they are making a stop to visit the HOF. I told him to flash the ring to anyone wearing a Yankees cap.

Is it the same ring that the players get or a little less on the bling?

I'm not going to celebrate the Rangers misfortune. The team is having a historical year, and most of the Ags on the other thread have stuck with them through all the recent terrible seasons.
Im proud of this thread for either being decent enough humans or respecting the baseball gods enough to not celebrate the injury.

Some of them have stuck with the team just like some of us did during the 100-loss years, but I think their thread post count from the last few seasons shows it wasn't "most".

In fairness I'm sure our thread wasn't exactly rocking during the Bo Porter years.

I heard that's the only reason he played Bonds as well.

Also you (and anyone who gave that post stars) are morons.

Dusty might be crap at lineups and he might feel great about giving a young black guy an opportunity to be in the lineup, but if you really think he plays someone based on race you are truly twisted.

With the Rangerettes leading the Astros with just a 3 game lead in early June, I recall the Astros had a ten game lead over the Reds on July the 4th in the 1979 season. Everyone in Houston was already planning a parade for October. However, who won the division that year? The Reds. If a team has a five game lead even as late as Labor Day it doesn't guarantee anything. No lead is safe.

I know it's definitely not the same as the players but he did have to sign a waiver promising he would never sell it on eBay or anywhere else. I'd be curious to know how many different levels of rings they produced.

So you think Taylor Jones is out there wondering if he just wasn't black enough to get that token lineup spot?

Come on, you have to admit it's odd he added Tony Sipp and Carl Everett to the 40 man

I love that Dusty believes in the time honored tradition of splitting your left-handed hitters (even though we all know it's not applicable to our situation) yet he ignores the time honored tradition of playing a dude when he's hot.

Sigh.
