Yup. He should at very minimum be in the lineup EVERY time we face a lefty.

I have no issue at all with Julks aside from thinking he has a low ceiling, and in fact as a hometown dude I want him to thrive with the Stros. But. I am confused what led Dusty to decide he is an actual every day player while Chas just sits there.
Hmmm.....

No doubt.

He could be a 25-30 HR .800+ OPS CF with plus defense playing his way into a far better contract than Myles Straw's 5/$25M

Too late in his career to be caught doing something that makes sense for the first time?

Just looked it up. Chas has a career .921 OPS against lefties.

It's a crime when he doesn't start against LHP.

Chas gets his 2nd day off in a row & 3rd day off in the last 6 days. If I were him, I'd want to be traded. There have been 33 CFers to accumulate 800+ PA over the last 3 seasons. I use CF loosely to include guys like Judge, Marte, etc. Chas ranks 13th in wRC+ @ 112. He's ahead of guys like Daulton Varsho, Harrison Bader, Mike Yastrzyemski, Adam Duvall, & Adolis Garcia. He's not too far off from Ketel Marte & Cedric Mullins. Yet we treat him as some fringe player who has to prove he's worth getting regular starts.

I'm with you. If I was Chas' agent, I'd consider conversations about possible trades. I think he can hit 25+ Hrs with regular playing time while providing above average defense.

Credit to Julks for making it a competition, even if it is mostly in the manager's mind.

If Julks doesn't start the way he has, I'm pretty sure the OF would be mostly Yordan/Chas, Meyers, Tucker.

You could make the argument that Abreu has been just as bad a hitter as Manoah as a pitcher in terms of expected results. Yes, I know the $60M argument but just interesting to me.

It's more like the Spring Training Complex to work on his issues.

I'd trade Dusty, a Sunglass Hut kiosk, and a pallet of toothpicks for Manoah as is.
I love Texas Aggie sports, but I love Texas A&M more.

Yeah, I'd say this trade worked out.

#1 targets for me are Sal Perez and Realmuto

Why?

Both good players, but we have a pretty impressive offensive catcher sitting on the bench every day and he is playing for the league minimum and won't cost prospects in a trade.

We just need our manager to play him. Which as we've seen he's been reluctant to do when adding veteran catchers at the deadline.
I don't disagree Diaz should play way more but to anoint him a "pretty impressive offensive catcher" after 82 career ABs is premature. Besides, you need two catchers the way things are headed Diaz should get plenty of PT at 1B even if we acquire another one.

BTW on Verdugo, he's having a career year but look at his splits away from Fenway. Think he's more of the barely above average hitter he has been in prior years. We have several guys of similar skillset. Think you only make a move for an OF if it's a true impact guy.

Dusty is our biggest stumbling block. Good Lord.
Last night's lineup with Altuve leading off is the ticket is the ticket.

Manoah is fat and out of shape, btw. I know he wasn't the picture of fitness last year, but there's not much margin for error for a butterball in the big leagues.

the Rangers were warned.

the Rangers did not listen.

he's making $30 MM this year...and set for $40 MM next year...

no telling when he'll be ready to pitch in 2024

Tough break for DeGrom but I can't say I'm shocked.

We tried to tell them that contract was a big roll of the dice.

Never say never, we were able to overcome JV getting TJ and still make the World Series. If they continue to have career years like they have been anything is possible. Really sucks for DeGrom.

Injuries are such a fickle beast, which makes our run that much more impressive.

Astros vs LHP - 107
Astros vs RHP - 100

2023 Astros vs RHP
Altuve - 196
Alvarez - 167
Diaz - 147
2023 Verdugo vs RHP - 142
Bregman - 130
Career Verdugo vs RHP - 120
Tucker - 110
Meyers - 110
Pena - 104
McCormick - 102
Julks - 78
Dubon - 56

Hitting righties is somewhere the team has room to improve. A lefty OF bat helps. You're not going to platoon anyone in the INF. We're more than willing to platoon Chas and or Jake.

I'm not going to celebrate the Rangers misfortune. The team is having a historical year, and most of the Ags on the other thread have stuck with them through all the recent terrible seasons.
