This is exactly it. Dana Brown also has a lot more authority and pull than Click ever did.

You have more inside knowledge to actually opine on this 2015, but it seems to me like Jake is the one the team sees the most potential in.
This is correct.
Comments like this make me wonder what the real reason Crane parted ways with Click. The report of Click betting his job on Jake seems much smaller now if the new GM sees Jake as the most potential as well.

Maybe it really is as simple as they didn't work well together.
I can confirm this is 100% accurate. Crane is a hard man to work with and Click did not get along with him. Actual job performance had little to do with it.

Just commenting on Click's performance…

Based on outcome and moves alone Click did a good job. Click won a WS, got to another WS, and got to another ALCS. The only bad deal he made was short term and clearly didn't impact the final product. All trades look to be won or at least didn't lose much. Click was a good GM. No way around it. He didn't bring a franchise back from the dead but he wasn't asked to. He kept the training moving on time with plenty of track ahead.

Yup, I never had a problem with Click. Did I love every move he made? No.. but you can't argue the results.

This is where I am on Click. Was happy with him as I saw his job was to keep the train rolling.

I am curious if Dana can continue the run through evaluation, correct contracts to the correct players, and smart trades with the occasional headliner trade that doesn't put the organization in a bad position.

Not sure Click was all of the above, so I hope Dana is!

Don't think it makes much sense to give up assets for either one of those catchers
I have wanted Realmuto for years, but I agree. We just need to play The Yainer more and bring in players at positions where we don't have studs waiting & ready to produce.

Which is why I'm excited to see Dana at the deadline.

I imagine Crane told Click to be aggressive and all he got back in return was 'Well let me run the numbers and get with some folks and see if it makes sense'.

Here we are today and I imagine Dana responding with 'Yeah for sure. I'm on it and I'm gonna make it happen'.

Should be interesting

Yes, Click was very good.

TBH his firing and the subsequent moves left me thinking that Crane might be headed the way of Jerrah.

Part of the strength of the organization was that it knew how to find under the radar value and knew when to not make big splash moves.

We'll see, but I'm more nervous than excited to see Dana's deadline moves.

I hope Dana is not a yes b1t<h. That's not what Crane needs. You saw what happened when Crane and his buddy Baggy put their brains together this offseason.

Hopefully he has learned his lesson and will let his GM do his thing.

If Crane was going full Jerrah JV would be the worst pitcher in this rotation right now.
Harry Dunne

That's funny and yes, good point.

I don't think he's the personality type to go full Jerrah, but I think this is the point where we find out of Crane's brains or his ego are going to win the personnel decision battle.

Fair enough

I think the pessimism regarding Crane/Dana is warranted. I don't personally think there's as much to worry about as some on the thread but I can see it being worrisome.

IMO Dana is a good enough GM and smart enough baseball guy that he can both satisfy Crane but at the same time not blow this thing up.

I don't recall ATL making crazy deals that set them back (a la Dipoto) so that gives me hope that Dana can toe that line and get the pieces they need without emptying the cupboard.

You could argue the reason they won the WS in 2019 was because of the moves they made at the deadline.

Is he fixable? He's still under team control for another 3 years IIRC

I imagine he's so cheap that TOR has no motivation to trade him (especially trading him low) and would just as well keep him.

But good moves no?

Nothing that wiped their farm system clean and added boat anchor contracts to the roster.

Dana Brown is known around baseball for his scouting and ability to build a farm system. That was a big reason why Crane hired him.

I saw CC Sabathia is going to be on a sports show on Thursday, and it got me thinking about guys more outspoken against the 2017 Astros.

I would be interested to hear a conversation between some of those guys and a couple of the 2017 members. Would be really curious to see how that conversation would go.

Anyone else?

2021*

Soler murdered us. (1.191 OPS)

Soler & Roasrio murdered LA. (1.647 OPS & 1.500 OPS but now I see it was only 2 ABs for Soler)

Pederson murdered MIL. (1.714 OPS)

All deadline moves.

We might look back on the '23 title run and owe a debt of gratitude to the 1st half Texas Rangerettes for being an excellent pace horse. Might drive Crane to be more aggressive at the trade deadline than he would have been with a 10-game lead.

Maybe not, but thinking of the northern team like this makes me giggle.
I love Texas Aggie sports, but I love Texas A&M more.

I get it. We've been to 4 World Series in 7 years. It's easy to get them mixed up when all you do is play in big series after big series for almost a decade.

No idea, but I doubt TOR is looking to sell low.

The absolute best we'll get this year is a 50/50, 60/40 timeshare at catcher. If he keeps up the slugging, hopefully teams don't completely stop throwing him fastballs, he should get the lion share next year (with Lee as backup?)

Chas gets his 2nd day off in a row & 3rd day off in the last 6 days. If I were him, I'd want to be traded. There have been 33 CFers to accumulate 800+ PA over the last 3 seasons. I use CF loosely to include guys like Judge, Marte, etc. Chas ranks 13th in wRC+ @ 112. He's ahead of guys like Daulton Varsho, Harrison Bader, Mike Yastrzyemski, Adam Duvall, & Adolis Garcia. He's not too far off from Ketel Marte & Cedric Mullins. Yet we treat him as some fringe player who has to prove he's worth getting regular starts.

I have no issue at all with Julks aside from thinking he has a low ceiling, and in fact as a hometown dude I want him to thrive with the Stros. But. I am confused what led Dusty to decide he is an actual every day player while Chas just sits there.

So far it's been 71% / 24% / 6%.
