I'd move Abreu down to the 8 hole for the time being to see if he can figure something out. He's clearly hurting the team in the 4 or 5 hole. If he doesn't figure something out by the all-star break then we need to seriously start looking at a replacement. Whether that's Dubon, Brantley, or biting the bullet and trading for someone - something needs to be done.

Personally, I don't see him fixing this. His swing and approach are completely ****ed up. And it seems to clearly be in his head now, so he's going up there pressing with no confidence. His power is non-existent. I absolutely hope he can figure this out, not only for the team but he genuinely seems like a good guy. But I just don't see it happening.

You forgot there is no subtle wiggle room on the internet and everyone latches onto pitcher vs position player.

Harper's recovery is superhuman, though, even for a non pitcher.

Like Wabs said, move him down to 8 to take the pressure off him and see if he starts to improve. If he doesn't then by the ASB he needs to be put on the shelf (pick an injury, any injury).

We simply can't have a gigantic black hole in the middle of our lineup, he's killing way too many rallies and now pitchers are finally figuring out they can simply pitch around Yordan and Tucker. We need someone who at least has a decent chance of making them pay for that approach.

I love what JV did but he was looking at the next 2 contracts. I don't blame him, but you stick Harper's head on JV's body and I bet we see him on the bump that October.

All of that convo was to say, JV's 2 year deal rivals Abreu's current one even if the scenario is not the same.

I like the idea of Abreu having some kind of discomfort and bringing Matijevic up for a couple of weeks. Can't be any worse and it would give Jose the chance to reset. Plus it would open Dusty up to trying Dubon or Diaz at first as well.

Man a Thurs off-day after a noon Wed game is rough.

I'm also keen to see how Meyers does through the summer. He seems to be flashing what we saw pre-injury, and what Click saw in him. If so, I wonder if McCormick becomes bait for some help at the trade deadline (SP, RP, 1B?). Not sure of his value, but OF seems to be our strongest position in the minors.

Lee's hitting over .300 with nearly an .800 OPS, so you may have something. If you think Berryhill will continue to improve and be ready in '25.

Letting go of Enoli scares me. It would be like deciding Abreu was expendable after COVID. Early on he looked lost and now look at him.

I'm more of the mindset of Diaz starts next year and Salazar is backup.
