Smart teams don't care about pride/optics. We don't know if they dfa'd him bc they were ok with losing him or if they were just kind of stuck in a hard spot roster-wise. Well, I don't, anyway. Hasn't he been kind of a monster since? Maybe he was motivated.

Either way, if Abreu continues to suck you can't let any option be off the table, imo.

We can bag on B**** some more? The more he opens his mouth the more I'm concerned with him having any sway or influence over the organization. I love Bagwell as a player, but anything beyond that is borderline reprehensible.

I think he needs to really kick it into gear to make up for the worst dWAR (by far) on the team. He has a negative WAA, on par with Salazar and below Maldonado.

I'm not a stat guy, so how does a Gold Glover post those numbers?

Am I reading this right? Tucker is tied for 6th on the team in WAR and is a single lolligag away from 8th.

If so, he should be thanking Abreu for the shade.

Like Wabs said, move him down to 8 to take the pressure off him and see if he starts to improve. If he doesn't then by the ASB he needs to be put on the shelf (pick an injury, any injury).

We simply can't have a gigantic black hole in the middle of our lineup, he's killing way too many rallies and now pitchers are finally figuring out they can simply pitch around Yordan and Tucker. We need someone who at least has a decent chance of making them pay for that approach.

Not me, because it's really kind of fascinating. The guy has a .259 slugging average. For the season he has 34 singles, 7 doubles and no triples or homers.

From my childhood days I remember Roger Metzger as the epitome of a light hitting shortstop. He was skinny as a twig. In 1977 he hit only .186. But that year he slugged .264. Roger earned his keep by being a really good shortstop though.

WAR is wins above a AAA/AAAA level player

WAA is wins above an average ML player. So it measures worth relative to peers.

RAA is how many runs above average a player is worth over the average ML player.

Right now Abreu is -1 for his WAR and -2 for his WAA. His RAA is -17. His WAA winning % is .462 so a team made up of him and average players elsewhere would win 46% of their games.

Prorate this over the season and he could easily cost this team winning a Division or even making the playoffs. By the end of the season he could be a WAR of -4 and a WAA of -8 and cost as much as 70 runs. 8 wins is the difference between a playoff team and not a playoff team. That's how much he hurts.

As much grief as Bregman is getting his WAA is 0.0 and his RAA is 0.0. He's literally been an average ML player. As had Machete. Same numbers.

Tucker on the other hand has a WAA of -0.2. He has some work to do.

What really grinds my gears about this situation:

The way Dusty has treated Pena versus Abreu.

Even before the season started Dusty was kicking Pena out of the 2 hole with his comments about Brantley coming back. Then Pena starts out slow and gets knocked out of the 2 hole within what 2 weeks?

So the guy who carried his team to a championship and salvaged his postseason coaching reputation gets no time to work it out? This is fair and a tough decision a coach has to make buuuut....yet here we are...almost 2 months later with Abreu getting a stupid amount of time at the 4 and 5 spot.

So now if feels like we're being held hostage by Abreu and Dusty in the name of veteran nepotism

Regarding, Tuck -- I'm excited to see what he does for the rest of the summer. I want him to get 30-30. That would be awesome.

I've reserved myself to the fact that he will not be re-signed. I'm going to enjoy the rest of the time he is here, but if Gilbert is as advertised, that will certainly soften the blow of Tuck leaving.
