I think Abreu hitting 4th is a show of support from Dusty, like a "hey we still believe in you". I'm not a hitting Sherpa, but I figure a large component of hitting well has to be mental, and if Abreu isn't a moron he has to be feeling the pressure. Rather than move the guy to 9th and breaking him forever, perhaps Dusty is trying to bolster his confidence
Also this is a good post and probably exactly what Dusty is thinking - I'm not trying to pick on you.

My POV is just that he should be able to handle it and might even feel less pressure hitting lower and find his mojo again.

I don't disagree with anything he said, less it's theirs to lose. They're competitive and will likely be competitive most of the year. It is still our division to lose…
Yes, I was more referring to the quote on the tweet. They haven't won the division in what, 6 years?
In 2017 they were coming off back to back division titles and 2 recent WS and we hadn't won the division in 16 years!

Lotta hubris around here but if that pitcher falls on Yordan's leg on that home plate slide, we're not the favorites anymore.
We replace him in the aggregate...with like 11 guys.

Why in the world would you out that evil out there like that?

I think you have your baseball superstitions backwards. This is not a no-hitter.

We are going to have injuries - that's a given in baseball. We don't have near the depth we had in the past. That's what I'm worried about.

Well if my aunt had nuts she'd be my uncle.

Rangers are much improved and will compete but in the end the talent gap will show and Stros will end up on top.

I'm guessing the Ranger win a WC spot

On yesterday's date in 2021 Correa got moved down to 7th in the order.

He ended up being an All-Star that season and his hitting and ego recovered just fine.
On on today's date he went back to hitting 6th. He then hit:

2
6
6

That was his only time batting 7th the entire year.

so not sure what point you think that made.

I chose that because it was his low point. I could have said 6th, but he batted 6th a lot that season. Would it have made a difference?

The point I made is pretty simple: Getting moved down in the order isn't a death knell for a struggling star player. He got moved down in the order and found his mojo pretty quickly. He rebounded and had an all-star season.

Zack Greinke has a higher Career OPS than what Abreu has put together this year

Yes.

When Correa got moved down to 7th (for a day. Mostly 6th if you have a hard time understanding the point otherwise), he was hitting .269 with a .769 OPS.

no one is talking about moving Abreu down for just one day. that has been done.

moving to 7th for a day didnt turn Correa around.

I don't see any games where Correa batted 7th in 2021. He did bat 7th a decent chunk of 2020 though.

Robel Garica batted leadoff one game. I am trying to convince myself he is real because my memory of him is fuzzy.

Gotcha, thanks.

6th or 7th, the point is the same. I don't think it would crush Abreu's confidence and I think it might help him find his mojo to get moved down in the lineup and it might be helpful to the team if his cold bat wasn't sandwiched between our two best hitters.

100% Agreed. If your ego can't handle batting 6th or 7th after sucking for 2 months then you aren't cut out for Astros baseball.

I don't recall Correa ever hitting clean-up…so while I get what you're trying to say I feel like your comparison is lacking.

CC Batting Order Splits

Correa has started 273 games as the clean-up hitter for 1,167 PA. .282/.365/.473/.838 OPS

I stand corrected. But as this shows. There was a very heavy early bias for those

To be fair, 273 games is two relatively healthy seasons for Correa.

Imagine how many years it will take McCullers to reach 273 games played... for reference he's only played in 130 games so far in his career.

That is a silly comparison. 25-year-old Acuna has played in almost 100 more games than Justin Verlander. It's almost like starting pitchers only play 30 games a year.

What do we get more of this season...

LMJ starts or Abreu HRs?

If you had to lock in one, which would you pick?

If you say Abreu, it means he gets going and smack a dozen or so. Unless it means McCullers has another setback and is done.

If you say McCullers then it means Abreu is maxing out at single digits, but you likely have your boy back in the rotation.

Lance's first start last year was August 13th and he finished with 8 regular season starts...

Even at that, I'd pick Lance over Abreu.
