I think Abreu hitting 4th is a show of support from Dusty, like a "hey we still believe in you". I'm not a hitting Sherpa, but I figure a large component of hitting well has to be mental, and if Abreu isn't a moron he has to be feeling the pressure. Rather than move the guy to 9th and breaking him forever, perhaps Dusty is trying to bolster his confidence
Well Dana's latest on Lance is kind of a bummer. Can't say I'm surprised but still a bummer.
Sounds like it's pretty iffy if he can come back in the rotation and I'm not sure there's a spot in the BP for him.
Wouldn't surprise me if he doesn't pitch at all this season. At this point I think that's just as likely as him pitching.

I think he's a terrible investment, we're going to pay him 50 mill or so to bounce between the IL and a few starts.
I think maybe his mechanics were bad when he started throwing the fast curve and he did some damage to his arm early on

The LMJ news is exactly why I suggested the Astros invest in a swing guy of some kind.
And with respect to his throwing motion, maybe that's the cause of the delay. learning a new way. Hey, I'm trying to be optimistic instead of saying he's made of wet tissue.

Check their July schedule. It's brutal- the piper comes calling eventually because of the relative cakewalk they've had so far. Their average opponent this year is 20-27 and played the toughest teams during their worst respective stretches. It's been a dream schedule so far. Credit the Rangers for taking care of business, but let it play out.

Altuve, Bregman, Alvarez, & Tucker bat top 4. Figure out the order. It's doesn't matter that much. (Tucker, Altuve, Alvarez, Bregman would probably be my pick).
If there is a lefty starting, (2/3 or all 3) McCormick, Meyers, and Dubon need to be in the lineup. And Pena can't be benched to get Dubon in.
Diaz has to play more. Get him a guaranteed start behind the dish behind the plate at least once a week (I would do 2 or 3) then he also needs a start at 1st or DH once a week as well.
Don't give up on Abreu. But he needs to be down in the order, especially vs LHP when we have so many killers. We need him good to help win a title.
Chas & Jake start in the OF when Javier or any fly ball pitcher pitches. Pena starts all Framber, McCullers, & Brown starts.
All gets get regulars rest, Dubon is the first guy off the bench.
I think that is all that comes to mind.

He's not as good as Chas or Jake. Per Dusty, he played him there because he has a good arm and didn't want guys moving 1st to 3rd.

great video by Clanton, you can really see how well the Uncle Charlie was working from Framber yesterday, absolute K machine.

I'm not following... he'd only pitch once a week in either scenario, so why not keep him as a starter? You're not going to roll out LMJ every couple of days for 1 or 60 pitches.

I get that line of thinking, but it has gone on far too long. I believe that hitting 4th is probably mentally taxing on him right now because he is well aware of how bad he is sucking in such a critical spot.Dies Irae said:

Completely agree and is likely causing him to press even further at the plate. Players are acutely aware of when they are sucking and seeing his name penciled into the 4 hole over and over is probably deflating for him.
Also, batting between our two best hitters mean pitchers are really bearing down to try to get him out whereas batting 7th or 8th he's likely not to see such high leverage pitches. Maybe batting at the bottom of the lineup he gets some better pitches and starts to string together some hits and slowly rebuild his confidence.
Can't wait to see the lineup card for tonight! Lol.

I think he could go twice a week if he pitched 2 innings per outing. Like if they gave him 40 pitches max

And that man has twice the ego Abreu seems to have. Not saying it's not warranted, just making the point that Abreu will recover hitting 7-8

My POV is just that he should be able to handle it and might even feel less pressure hitting lower and find his mojo again.

I'm not arguing that he's better than Chas, or Jake in the OF. However, I will argue that with his experience in the OF, combined with his current top 10 in MLB batting avg he should be getting playing time over both of them right now. If Dusty doesn't want to let him start in the IF anywhere so be it, but he needs to be getting starts in the OF at least.
