Agreed. His 2020 swing fires as soon as his front foot hits the ground. Now he's a split second delayed. Hands might be in a slightly different spot too. I kind of wish we had a view from the side to compare.
If I had to guess it's probably a little of both. Father Time is undefeated, but 36 year olds don't go from very very good to one of the worst in baseball.
I've always seen Abreu as similar to Altvue and Brantley in that they are pure hitters. I agree with your statement in bold that I would not expect a pure hitter to drop off from one of the best to one of the worst in one season.
I lean towards his issues are mechanical and can be fixed.
Or, maybe he just needs an eye exam :-)
