Looking back at Abreu's swing in 2020 (MVP year)... it looks like he's always been fairly quiet in his lower body but definitely much more leg back then than his slap approach this year...

Our next 12 are Cubs, As, Brewers, As. Framber-Javier get Cubs & Brewers. The As suck. No reason we can't go 8-4 or better. 29-23 puts .500 ball in the rear view.

Correct move but we all know Dusty aint doing that
I don't know if I can remember a guy that's supposed to be a hitter (i.e. not Maldy or Brad Ausmuff) ever have a slump this bad for this long. Other than guys who just fell off the cliff hard at the end of their career. Which I am now genuinely afraid is what this is.
Gallo & Belli might be decent comps to slugger turned zero turned decent again. They're younger than Jose.
Bellinger is a far better comp but he was only good for three years to start his career and then had injuries, so that's a little more explainable.
Abreu was a .290 hitter with power for a decade straight and not that he didn't have highs and lows, but was about as steady as they come & then just absolutely lost all of his power at the end of May 2022…He only has 1 HR in 350+ ABs since early August of last year!!!
Show me any true power hitter ever who has gone 350 ABs with 1 HR. I might be wrong, but I don't think you're going to find that anywhere in history.

Drew Gilbert, a first-rounder last year, has already climbed to Double-A in his first full season and is flashing a bit more pop than expected -- a positive sign for a player with 55 hit and run grades.
No posts since 4/20. Maybe had a real bender and is still recovering?Farmer1906 said:

seriously, though, I hope all our Astros friends are doing well.

So the hack who broke Jose's thumb decided to get stupid today against the Phillies and got into it with Harper. Both gots tossed. He threw 1.0 IP, 8 strikes and 12 balls. Sounds like he was in WBC form.

Harper is truly becoming a philly with his attitude. I liked the guy in Washington, less so in Philly and even less as time goes onMathguy64 said:

IMO, the front office needs to prepare as if Brantley is out for the year and make moves accordingly. If he comes back, great what a bonus. But plan as if he's not
What guy, that wouldn't cost a ton, would be an upgrade over what we have?Marvin said:tjack16 said:

I would add another starter or long reliever to the list in addition to Garcia. Not sure who, but a swing guy that doesn't cost a ton would be great. The team can go bullpen day on occasion.
this should've been the mentality from the start.tjack16 said:

This. Brantley should be a semi-platoon, veteran presence, who is the 5th to 7th best bat.Frok said:
The Brantley signing wasn't supposed to be crucial. Problem is Altuve got hurt, Bregman is struggling and Abreu dropped off a cliff so now we are desperate.
so a semi platoon 5th to 7th best bat, who many think deserves to have the #2 spot in the batting order locked down?Farmer1906 said:This. Brantley should be a semi-platoon, veteran presence, who is the 5th to 7th best bat.Frok said:

Pena hasn't taken that next step either. edit: has been fine, slightly better. No major jump.
Alavez being Alvarsz and Tucker being good, not great is about all that has gone right offensively. I would put Chas in the positive, but it was only a few games before the injury.
In terms of how Dusty builds the lineup, sure.AustinCountyAg said:so a semi platoon 5th to 7th best bat, who many think deserves to have the #2 spot in the batting order locked down?Farmer1906 said:This. Brantley should be a semi-platoon, veteran presence, who is the 5th to 7th best bat.Frok said:

It might surprise you but a batting order isnt a ranking system but in fact a mixture of hitter profiles on how to be most effective.
he's probably not our 5th best against LHPAustinCountyAg said:no *****Lonestar_Ag09 said:

my point was being if he's considered the 5th best hitter on this team his ass needs to be in the lineup every day considering our crappy offense. you don't platoon one of the better hitters right now with this lineup considering how miserable it is in it's current state.
but it doesn't matter because he's hurt.
