So everyone place their bets.

MB comes back:
1. In 2 weeks or less
2. Sometime in June.
3. Before LMJ
4. Sometime in August
5. Never. He's done and retires.

4. no reason to rush him back for the regular season, but want him healthy for the postseason
There is reason to want him back before August. We need good players to win. The margin of error is smaller this season with the other injuries and a more prolonged slow start.

Lets hope we get top 5 MVP Altuve and not 2022 Playoff Altuve and his .483 OPS.

Wasn't he coming off a knee/leg injury? I'm convinced that affected him for two years. Last year he was fully healthy and looked like his normal self.

I think since this wasn't a leg injury he's going to be just fine.

His surgery was on May 22 and they were saying 8 weeks at the time so it looks he's right on track.

When Britt Minnich broke his thumb on opening day they were saying 6 weeks and he came back in a few days before that. He's younger than Jose and maybe his break was cleaner. But he didn't get a rehab assignment and started hitting right away.

Sorry I meant Brantley. It looks like June of last year. The concerns me considering labral repairs shouldn't take that long and it's his non-throwing arm.

You ever torn a labrum? It's a *****.

Had a labrum tear a few years back. I had a pretty smooth recovery but had to be REALLY careful not to overdo it. They told me several times to do exactly what the doctor cleared me to do and nothing beyond that.

I didn't realize it was a torn labrum. That's the same surgery that Meyers had. Not a short road back.

Really good article about Yordan.

The interesting bit was talking about his hands. The author said it was "inflammation" in both of them at different times.
I also found his approach interesting. Like if he's going up there hunting a change up he's going to ignore fast balls, even center cut. As fans we tend to forget this and complain "Yordan, why are you taking that meaty fastball...destroy it!!!"

We need to remember that a hitter's approach at a particular at bat will often dictate what pitches he takes, even if they are right down the middle.

He needs to teach this approach to Pena

How soon before Bochy breaks Eovaldi? He leads the league in IP and 7th in pitches thrown. He's had 2 starts of 113 pitches which he hasn't done since 2016. At 33 and with a very recent history of injuries, I don't think it bodes well.

Great quote - they all must feel like they are in scoring position when Yordan is up.

I've seen a lot of guys come in that we've played against, and he's the best hitter in the league. Watching him in clutch situations, he's [even] more dangerous with runners on base. I think I stop running just because of that because I know I'm in scoring position at first base.

I'm a physical therapist who has treated hundreds of people with torn labrums. This is on the long side for that type of surgery. The Astros are tight lipped about injuries which I totally get but it isn't hard to figure out when recovery times are getting long that something else might be going on. I don't trust the return of LMJ either.

checking in with the White Sox...

Eloy Jimenez went on the IL after an appendectomy. Won't see him this weekend.

Tim Anderson returned from his injury last week. Had 7 hits and 2 walks vs. the 'stros on opening weekend.

and perhaps a trend in MLB...the White Sox have a couple of veteran players whose power has just disappeared

At this point, have we see enough data to believe they unjuiced the balls, or pitchers mostly went back to cheating on spin rate?

I agree it seems like a lot of power hitters lost a lot of power

Looks similar to last year. Home runs are actually up. Astros HRs are just way down.

Thru 43291 PA last year
38.7% HH
88.8 EV
1136 HR (1 every 38.11PA)

Thru 42740 PA this year
39.1% HH
89.0 EV
1281 HR (1 every 33.46 pA)

in order to avoid the jinx...

I refrained from listing the names of Chicago's former all-stars stuck on zero home runs

I'm rolling with the reverse psychology jinx. Put a few bucks on the Astros winning at - 1.5 runs and Monsieur J.P. striking out over 4.5.

I don't think there have been 3 or 4 platinum sombreros all season. That better pay heavily.

I predicted early in the year that Abreu would hit his first homer against the White Sox. Never did I know I'd be waiting until mid May for that prediction to (hopefully) come true

Went over my head. I'm thinking at 42000 PAs in the season with 4 platinum sombreros it would need to pay 10000-1 for the field. For any given player maybe 1 million to 1?

I'd venture to say it's 37 years at Fox while working elsewhere for 6 years in Houston.

But hey, maybe we'll be down 8 going into the 8th, Peña will pitch, and he'll get 5Ks.

You never know.
