So not to be too much of a downer, but if Abreu keeps playing the way he is, does his deal do Carlos Lee-like damage to our line-up?
In 2025 we have Altuve and Bregman as free agents and Valdez and Tucker likely getting big chunks of cash, and Garcia likely making decent money as well, it seems like it's going to be hard to keep Altuve and Bregman with all the other commitments we have.
seems like Bregman is going to have to take a hefty paycut if we keep him. I'm all over pre-covid Bregman, but if he keeps playing like post-covid Bregman, there's no way we can give him $30,000,000+ a year.bearkatag15 said:Dies Irae said:

Crane has made it clear that Altuve and Bregman are lifers as Astros
It'll be clear when he writes the check. Until then, its muddy for me.bearkatag15 said:Dies Irae said:

Crane doesn't seem like he has loyalty to anyone. I think that's just him saying what he thinks everyone wants to hear. It'll be interesting to see what happens in regards to who gets a deal and who doesn't.bearkatag15 said:Dies Irae said:

I'll give you muddy on Bregman but Altuve seems very certain to be a lifer.

It'll be between 72-79 during the game with no sun beating down or chance of rain. If you're stuck in a seat in the sun with no air wind, 82 can feel like 92 real quick.
I'd bet good money those guys who I crossed out won't be extended.Farmer1906 said:bearkatag15 said:Farmer1906 said:It'll be clear when he writes the check. Until then, its muddy for me.bearkatag15 said:Dies Irae said:

I can agree with that. But a lot of decisions will need to be made between now and the end of 2025.

Haha... unsurprisingly the Astros keep injuries under wraps so I really don't have any intel there.Lonestar_Ag09 said:
Does this mean you're going to let us know hours eary when we know Urkeeding and Garcia injury status?
The roof will be OPEN for tonight's @astros game (subject to change).

Left-handed reliever Matt Gage is en route to Houston, sources tell @TheAthletic. Unclear if he’ll be available or active for the Astros’ game tonight against the Giants.

for all Dusty's LR fetish, it surprised me that we didn't have a lefty reliever on the team.texasaggie2015 said:Left-handed reliever Matt Gage is en route to Houston, sources tell @TheAthletic. Unclear if he’ll be available or active for the Astros’ game tonight against the Giants.

That or Gage is just a fresh arm to help the BP until it Urquidy's turn in the rotation.Ag_07 said:
Interesting
Blanco to rotation?
Yeah I didn't state that right. I just posted something ludicrous I thought I remembered without looking it up on the way to lunch. The nuggets I tried to recall but failed spectacularly are:Buck Compton said:I want to see Rickey run with bigger bases and being limited to only two pickoffs. He's the most prolific base stealer and run scorer in history (and also hit almost 300 HRs).RED AG 98 said:
Ricky Henderson had like 25 years of 70+ steals. And I think 3 over 160. Completely unfathomable in the context of today's game.
But all of this is wrong... he never had anything close to 160 steals. The 130 in 1982 was his high water mark.
He played 25 years total, and many of them were below 70 steals. He only had 7 years above 70 (which is still amazing).
He attempted a steal over 60% of the times he reached first or second base that year.RED AG 98 said:Yeah I didn't state that right. He averaged nearly 60 bases a year over his 25 year career (so, not 70 a year...)
And he had 3 years over 100. Including 1 year over 130 with 170 attempts
As you say, still absolutely jawdropping and without need of any exaggeration whatsoever.
