Y'all are forgetting that Brantley will be in the two hole when he comes back. Dusty already said it, why doubt him.

Dubon
Brantley
Alvarez
Bregman
Tucker
Abreu
Pena
Meyers/Chaz
Maldonado

Later:
Jose
Brantley
Alvarez
Bregman
Tucker
Abreu
Pena
Meyers/Chaz
Maldonado/Diaz

He dominates both fairly equally.

I don't know for sure but generally I think it's their best. But I'm not sure that even matters.

The Phillies brought in their closer in the 6th and we know how that worked out for them.

Hell he got Minter twice. Dude just wrecks on anyone.

It really doesn't matter what Julks is doing. He's going down when Brantley comes up in a week or two. Only way he stays is if they drop Salazar to keep him until Jose comes back and then Julks goes down.

There is nothing in the Astros or Dusty's history that would give reason to believe low man on the totem pole doesn't go down.

When we're back at full strength Dubon will go back to a rotation amongst infielders when they need off days. And the battle will continue for CF between Jake and Chaz which the latter better hurt and get healthy or Dusty will say I told you so and sit him with cause with the recent Meyers jolt
Dusty is going to fight for Julks. Go read Chandler's latest piece.

Assume Julks keeps playing well, how do you make use of him? He has to be allowed to play 3B & RF. Even then, I don't think that is enough because Tucker & Bregman aren't guys who see a lot of rest.

Julks is a ****ing baller. He's the kind of guy who it feels like he's giving the exact same high-octane effort whether he's on Day 1 of spring training or Game 7 of the World Series and it's awesome to watch. The headfirst slide yesterday, the way RBi single in the 8th on Saturday where he took second on the throw home, that stuff is really exciting for me to watch.

I won't pretend some of this comparison isn't because they're both black, but he reminds me of the way Carl Everett played before he went ****oo for the Astros in the late 1990s. Playing like he's got a chip on his shoulder against the whole world

I'm sure all of the Astros are very competitive, but his attitude of "I'm here now, nobody's sending me back down" is fun to watch. He's making the most out of the opportunities, and if Brantley comes back slowly , I'd platoon him and Julks all season.

Not sure when the last time we had good problems like too many hot bats in the lineup with stars coming back taking their spots.

That's all well and good. Brantley is also black who Julks would be replaced by.

They've shown no willingness to play him in CF which would be his chance to stay in place of Meyers.

A reminder that Julks is not a center fielder. He played more games at third base in the minors than center field.

there was a time in Biggio's career where he played more games at 2B, and not the outfield. point is if Julks keeps hitting and he wants to play more, and they need him to simply cause his bat he will see time in the OF. Dude is young and athletic. His ass better be getting work in in the outfield before games.

I'll be curious if Julks keeps hitting, when Brantley comes back and Chas, what do you do with Meyers?

**THIS IS NOT MY OPINION JUST AN OBSERVATION**

What leads you to believe Chas will replace Jake when he is healthy the way Jake is currently playing? What leads you to believe Dusty would immediately place Chas back in the starting lineup?

It definitely feels like Meyers is getting the Siri treatment right now. A lot of ABs so you can trade him. Of course he's also hitting .317 with an .817 OPS in April, so maybe you let him stick around and see if he's actually what Click thought he could be. He's raised his average 117 points in a week, going 10-for-22 with 4 runs scored and 6 RBI while batting either 8th or 9th is hard to ignore.

Bannon will go down when Chas is healthy. Explain to me how you play the following in 3 OF positions and DH:

Dubon (hitting better currently than Julks, Meyers and Chas)
Alvarez (Will play 90% of games in LF/DH)
Brantley (Will play 70-80% in DH/LF)
Chas
Julks
Meyers
Tucker (will play 98% of RF innings)

What concerns me the most about Jake is his defense and the mental mistakes.

The throwing to the wrong base, not hitting cut off men, getting picked off, etc. Add in that he has a noodle arm that constantly gets run on and it he becomes a liability on defense.

At least with Chas I feel like you always know what you're gonna get. Not so much with Jake.
Project Gemini

Dubon plays mostly 2B and SS on days off for starters. Brantley doesn't see LF as much as you are assuming he does. Someone gets traded at some point. Not predictions, just my two cents.

I agree that is what Dubon has done. My point is he is killing it right now so it would surprise me to see him flip to some time in CF when Jose is back.

I didn't say Brantley plays that much in LF, I said 70% of remaining game he is in the lineup, at either LF or DH, mostly DH the great majority of other LF innings will be Yordan.

If were trading someone Id put my money on Julks not the to battling for CF

Monday stat updates! This for both leagues combined.

  • Maurucio Dubon is tied for 23rd in runs scored with 16. Marcus Semien leads with 21.
  • Dubon is tied for 16th in hits with 25. Ronald Acuna Jr. leads with 34.
  • Dubon is tied for 13th with a .329 batting average. Luis Arraez is still hitting an ungodly .444 for Miami (32 for 72).
  • Jeremy Pena is tied for 26th with 6 doubles. Nick Castellanos and Matt Chapman lead with 10 each.
  • We don't have anyone who's hit a triple yet. Captain Caveman leads with 4.
  • Yordan is tied for 8th with 6 home runs. Somehow Max Muncy has 11.
  • Yordan is second in RBI with 27, one behind Adolis Garcia of Texas. King Tuck is tied for 19th with 17 RBI. With the season about 13.5% over, Yordan is on pace for 44 HR and 199 RBI despite hitting only .253. Tuck's on pace for a pedestrian 125 RBI.
  • Tucker is tied for 37th with 41 total bases. Yordan is tied for 42nd with 40. Pete Alonso leads with 55.
  • Alex Bregman is 4th in the majors with 17 walks. Juan Soto has 22 despite hitting .198. Man, I didn''t realize how much ass he was sucking so far this year until right now. Soto is 16 for 81 with 9 RBI and a .383 slugging percentage. Tuck is tied for 5th with 16 walks
  • How about Jeremy Pena tied 10th in steals with 6, and Kyle Tucker tied for 12th with 5? Pena only had 11 steals all last year. What a difference 93 rule changes can make! Acuna leads the league with 12. I think he had 9 of those on Saturday night at the game I went to.
  • King Tuck is 10th in OBP at .419. Arraez leads at .506.
  • Tuck is 29th in slugging at .539 and Yordan is 31st at .533.
  • Tuck is 17th in OPS at .959. Yordan is 28th at .900.
  • Framber Valdez is tied for 13th in ERA at 2.25. Hunter Brown is 26th in ERA at 3.09 and Christian Javier is 29th at 3.21. Ohtani's ERA is 0.64 through 28 innings.
  • Framber is tied for 10th in strikeouts with 34. DeGrom leads with 43.

I think now is another good time to make the case for Tucker to leadoff.

.419 on base %
Doesn't strike out much (~18% of ABs)
Draws walks
Steals bases (5 steals, no caught)
Can slug the ball for immediate pressure, same as Altuve and Springer

I'd rather tucker bat 2nd. He drives in so many runs and if Maldonado stays in the lineup then nobody would be on base for Kyle when he leads off.

I'd go Altuve, Tuck, Bregman, Yordan as my 1-4
My desire for Tucker leading off is really just until Altuve comes back. Your point about Maldy is also valid, which is why this all pie in the sky scenario with me also wanting Diaz to take more ABs from him.

Ultimately, I want Tucker and Yordan hitting in the top 3, but I guess if we also want to maximize the RLRL Having Yordan bat 4th is a solid scenario.

BUUUUUT...as Farmer points out, as long as Dusty has control of the pencil Tucker is stuck with limited ABs.
I know the answer to this is "Because Dusty," but does it really matter about alternating RL if Yordan murders left-handed pitching?
Bruh, I am in the choir to which you are preaching. Give me Altuve, Tucker, Yordan when he's back.
I'm going to get flammed for this, but give me Altuve, Tucker, Bregman, Yordan.

My case: Tucker and Bregman are both top 10 in actual walks right now. They are top 15 in BB% - Tucker is walking at a 17.1% rate and Bregman at 16.5%.

I know part the goal is to have Yordan bat in the 1st inning, but I think with an order of Altuve-Tucker-Bregman-Yordan, he'd still bat quite a bit in the 1st inning, and I think would actually increase his opportunities to be batting with men on base.

Lol that one pitch has to be the 1-0 pitch to Julks that was so far outside that the location wasn't recordered and yet it was a strike

There is a case to put Bregman between Tuck and Yordan b/c they would pretty much have to pitch to Bregman. Tuck gets on base, and everyone knows Bregman will not chase. Can't put 2 on in front of Yordan with walks.

As far as Julks goes, if Brantley continues to slide in production vs LHP, Julks is a great platoon option. Of course, that requires Dusty to be willing to put Brantley on the bench.

Look at this list and you tell me. What's crazy is the Dodgers have been even more screwed than we have.

The Yankees 3rd best is the least surprising stat you'll see...well, I guess it's surprising they aren't first but I'm sure they'll get there by the all-star break.
