He was absolutely ready and alert of the picture at 10 seconds.

Here is a Seaver no no from the Big Red Machine days. Does this feel rushed? Why can they all get ready so quickly?

It feels too fast right now. I don't mind the pitch clock, but make it like 30 or 40 seconds

That's far too much. When we had runners on it felt much better. That extra 5 seconds matter

Should be 20 and 25

exactly. I dont mind the clock, but like I said earlier the way it is set up now it feels rushed. I think 5 of more seconds would go a long way.

To me the worst new rule is the one we just saw with Diaz getting the strike called on him and giving him a strikeout. If the pitcher has to throw within a certain time, there doesn't need to be a similar time within that to time signify that a batter must be "ready" within 8 seconds. If anything just make it where the batter must be in the box by the 8 second mark. It will be up to him whether he is "looking" or "ready to hit"

Then you get into quick pitches with some pitchers overwhelming guys who can't even get set.

Here is some data from baseball savant. They tracked pitch tempo, which they defined as the median time between pitches (in other words pitch release to pitch release). Only pitches that follow a take (called strike or called ball) and are thrown to the same batter are considered for this metric.

This isn't what the pitch clock is, because it has throw back from the catcher and wind up baked in. But, in general, guys were about 18 seconds with no one on & 23 seconds with runners on. If you take away the ~6 seconds of getting the ball back from the catcher and the actual delivery, most guys' median time wasn't close to violating the clock. It's the ~10-12% of the time where they slowed things way down that cause the issue.

Right now, I think so much focus is on this and guys are figuring out how to adjust that it's causing a negative reaction from fans. I really think long-term this helps the game.

If the teams don't like it, it's going to be real interesting in August when two crappy teams - let's say the Rangers and A's - decide to push the envelope and combine for like 150 violations in a game to see how far the umpires will go on calling them.

thats my point. Let them. Make it on the batter to know that you have to be in the box by 8 seconds, ready or not. They should at least be given the chance tp swing if they choose even if they aren't "ready"

Maybe I am not following you. Are you saying a pitcher can throw any time before the 15 seconds or from 8-15 regardless of what the batter is doing?

Looks like Yuli still have a shot to play this year, but it ain't pretty.

I am saying if the time reaches the 8 second mark and the batter is in the box (whether he's ready or not doesn't matter, being inside the box signifies he's ready imo) the pitcher can pitch whenever he wants . Similar to Diaz while ago. He was in the box, but wasn't deemed ready because he wasn't looking at the pitcher so the pitcher got a free strike. I dont like that. I think the batter should be afforded the chance to still swing.

Now, if the batter isn't in the box by the 8 second mark the pitcher can be given a free strike.

The players will adapt and so will we.

In just a week here we've gone from "oh no these new rules will ruin baseball" to "ok, new rules are good just add five more seconds".

I agree. That improved the rule. I originally took it as, ready or not here comes the pitch from the pitcher regardless of time.

I don't see what's wrong with bumping the pitch clock from :15 to :20.

15 is too rushed. I sat down for lunch to watch the game, and 2 innings were over in about 20 minutes. That was too fast.

I like the idea to speed up the games, but I don't want fast-break baseball. That's what it feels like right now.

It feels like some of the thinking part of the game, the chess portion of it, will be lost -- all to attract casual fans.

Case in point above -- Pitch clock running out, **** it. Fastball.

This game feels incredibly rushed and unnatural.

For me one of the beauties of baseball is the ability to turn a game on or be at a game and not be 100% locked in to the action.

You should be able to sit back and drink beer, have a conversation, and generally not feel like you've missed a lot. It should be just as much a social experience as it is a sports experience.

This certainly doesn't feel like that is possible.

Last week you told me, that after being a baseball fan for 55 years, that baseball just might not be for me. So in return might I suggest something with a slower pace for you, like maybe watching golf.

Have you seen the prices for Opening Day? Looking at presale, they are charging $400+ for club and field seats. Nosebleeds in the rafters are $125

Based on Tags last video we might get Brantley by opening day too. Having both for opening day would be nice.

I also like that his motion is much simpler. I think it's only going to help him when he has to pitch out of the stretch. He's closed the gap between wind-up and stretch. Luis may look back at the pitch clock and find it was the best thing for his career.

My bottom line is that if the clock was really a big deal, the players association never would have agreed to it.

Here's a chart on game length through 2014. The Internet says the average length of spring training games so far this year is 2 hours and 39 minutes. That's about on par with what it was in 1990. I was a teenager then but went to a lot of games and never remember thinking wow this is too fast!

Once the clock stops being so large I think most fans will relax.

I'm generally in favor of the rule changes, but what if it's a plot to jam more commercials between innings?

I guess anyone who has kept up with some of the decisions the owners have made over the years shouldn't discount that out of hand.
